has anyone ever made a pure patch x pure satsuma cross and if so what were the results from the cross any info would be great.

I have some Satsuma / Posin Patch hounds in my pack. They are a little watered down on the Satsuma side (about 3/4 Satsuma bred to full Posin Patch) These are some hard hunting, front of the pack young hounds. They have lots of step but can hold the line. The three young hounds that I kept out of the last litter are now 10 months old. They (two gyps and one male) can each jump and solo their on bunny. I have high hopes for them during next season.

whats the ctrossing that started satsumas wasnt it patch x??

I believe if you trace the Satsuma line back it well go back to Hare Breeding by the late Clarence Ward. There may be some Patch blood way back behind that maybe from Willet Randall.

I don't want to start any fight s or arguements on here so please realize that what I am saying is a quote not a statement.I spent 4 days at Mel Faust's place in Amite Louisiana about a year and a half ago. We ran dogs and talked alot of dogs. Mel is the originator/owner of the Satsuma Beagles and last I knew has made over 20 of them Field Champions. Yes they are colored up like most people think of a Patch hound.
According to Mel they have Absolutely no Patch blood in them. Mel said "I wouldn't keep a Patch hound ---overnight!!!!" If you know Mel you know he doesn't pull any punches.

Some of our dogs have Satsuma in them and they go back to a dog name Green Mt. Jerico I think is what I read so don't quote me they go back to some other nice stuff but I was reading a ped. the other day I think thats what some or all go back to.

Green Mountain was the Kennel name of Clarance Ward. Green Mountain Jericho is the hound that I remember also.

I've met Mel a few times. I know him well enough to know he isn't a Patch fan. I also know he out-crosses on Stone Cold Mack. Correct me if i'm wrong, but Sangamon Ridge Fredricka (SC Macks mother) goes back to Patch.
