Can anyone give me info on the Milton line of blueticks???? My understanding is that they were very competitive in trials a few years back. They seem to have disappeared. I have one that is out of Blue Babe Abigale by Miltons Good Time Blue Stoney. Stoney is out of Miltons Good Time Cool Breeze by Miltons Good Time Rocky. Abigale is out of Miltons Good Time Cool Breeze by Bredemeirs Apatchy. Any comments would be appreciated.

JCM (Jim McGuire from OH) who visits here from time to time can answer your questions. The Milton Hounds are some of the foundation stock of their kennel. If the McGuires show up for a hunt with six dogs, you can bet that all six of them are capable of winning that day. They are good people, too. You can e-mail or private message him from this sit (I think he's registered). If not, my bet is he will see your post and answer in a few days.

Arrow, Jeff Milton lives in South Central Ohio. He had a great amount of success the first few years he ran in hunts. He line bred his hounds, using mostly Rocky (sometimes 2 or 3 times in the first four generations).
The strength of the line was the ability to run a rabbit. Most Milton dogs get on a rabbit and never let up. This makes them a good line to cross with a lot of the hare bred dogs.
The weakness of the hounds was they are a little to easy or smooth for LP. Also with increasing amounts line breeding, shyness showed up in some hounds.
It is difficult to tell how successful the line of Milton dogs are because the majority are 2 or 3 generations away from the Milton name, but dogs with Milton breeding have had great success, especially considering how few there are in relation to other lines.
If you have more questions you can email me at

Thanks for the kind words Bev.

Hey Jim.......I wish I had known Sat. in Jackson that you had knowledge on Milton. All the time we spent together standing in the road we could have talked dogs instead of solving all the world problems. I had a young Milton in the open class. First time out 2nd in his cast. I didn't feel too bad. Are you going to Ironton this week-end. Hope to see you there. Russ (or Gus or whatever you choose to call me)
