I have a two year old 15 inch male that will run solo all day long but will not pack with other dogs  . He just flat out ignores them which cause him to get left behind on the checks. But he will figure it out and catch up and if the dogs come to a loss he will straighten them back out even if the track is 20 min old :) . HE has no problem running with other dogs just wont trust them enough to follow out of a check until he finds it on his own :bash: . Does anyone have any advice or expierence with this problem it would be greatly appreciated  .

Enjoy him, there are way too many "me too-ers" around. I'll take a solid hound that is hesitant to pack over a follower any day.

If you really want him to pack up with other hounds try kenneling him with one of the hounds you want him to pack with, or run him with a hound that he is better than and he will be able to take control and build up his confidence. He could just be getting over pressured by other dogs and wants to run his "own" rabbit.

Try tieing him close to where the other dogs are running. If he can hear and see them but can`t go he will want to. Has worked for me.. done it a couple of times and had good results.

Bunnyhunta, sounds like we own the same dog, only mine is only a year old. Just remember that at one and two years old they are still young and learning, depending on the amount of tracks your feeding them. I soloed mine and made sure he could do it ALL on his own before i tried packing him up. Once I did, he did the same thing yours does. I would encourage him to get to the other dog, even if you have to run with him and holler right here come on!! Then they learn to get there butt moving and honor that other dog. That helped get mine going, took about three times out and started catching on. I also have been doing what Bmpelesky said. Ran him with with my uncles slower dogs, it lets him get out ahead and build confidence. And yeah Dixie I think your right. My uncle says the same as you, he'd rather see them run their own instead of just packing up for the sake of packing up. Although it still can be frustrating when they don't hark. Just sounds to me like he's a dog with enough BRAINS to only toungue and advance when he has it. May end up not a trial hound but a straight up Rabbit Dog. Good luck with him.

I had a female that wouldn`t pack. she would jump every bunny in the brush,
but wouldn`t run as soon as a doug would hit her. bad trait so i got rid of her.

Tried him again today with another dog and he got a sight chase right off the back i decided id try to tie him up, when the other dog struck he went over to him and started to run but when they came to the checks he ignored him again but he did show more interest in the other dog runnin.

I would slowly pack the other dogs with him, not the other way around. Try kenneling him with another dog, a dog that you’re going to run him with. Run just those two dogs for a while {6 to 8 times out}, than after a couple weeks of just running one other dog with him, add one more and than after a couple weeks add another etc... He should adjust. In extreme cases, I have seen, if you kennel him for about 2 months strait without taking him out at all, and than tease him with a rabbit and take him out the next day with 1 other dog, it sometimes makes a “light bulb” turn on and they pack right away without delay or problems.
