and the only thing we had going on was a hen yelping so later on around
10:45 i stared calling i called and called and 4 long beards came in did a
half circle right to deadeye about a 50 yard shot straight down
17 lbs 10" beard. your welcome deadeye. ;)

I killed one Tuesday.....18.5 pounds with a 7" beard

Monday morning there were 8 longbeards gobbin their heads off and my buddy and I just couldn't put it all together. Everytime we moved to get in better position we would look back and they were right where we were 10 minutes before. We had them pounding right up until noon but really only could have shot a few jakes.

Tuesday morning I only heard about 10 gobbles all morning and those were from the roost. By 7:30am I was about to hang it up and go on into work. I decided to hit the glass call really hard and get agressive with it....bang....two gobbles. They hung up and seemed confused as to where the calling was coming from because some hens fired up to my left. I moved in closer to them and set my decoy out on a lane in plain view. A few hard cuts followed by intense purrs and they were coming in hot. They ran right into my setup....felt like the first turkey I had ever killed. It is funny how it all comes together so quick. I went to the house and hooked up with my buddy. We spotted 5 out strutting in the open so we moved in from a woods and I did the calling from in behind him. He was watching them in the field....meanwhile one snuck right up beside me within 15 yards. I got my buddies attention and he was able to close the deal once it started to move off. Pretty awsome morning!!!!

I put 4 more to bed tonight but I'm not able to go in the morning :mad2: :mad2: ........and no.....the GPS coordinates are not for sale

TB,
At least you now know where deadeyes honey hole is!!! I'll meet you there this weekend :D
These guys came by the house afterwards and i got to see the bird. I have never seen a bird with little spurs and a beard like this one. Spurs where only about a 1/2", but the beard was around 8" plus????? Pretty fan to.

I'm running sunday afternoon deadeye! Are you ready?

We'll we went back out Friday morning and we got set up ol deadeye made 2 calls here comes a yote running in, needless to say they don't call him deadeye for nothing one less yote. We move about a hundred yard's got set up deadeye started calling, we herd one gobbling right away he called him in from about 2 hundred yards away. When i seen them it was 2 long beard's i thought ole yea here we go, deadeye called them right in. We ended up getting a double. It couldn't happen any better.
My bird was 22 lbs with a 10 1/2" beard and deadeye was 18 lbs 10" beard

1/2" spur is a jake, 3/4 " is a two year old bird, an 1" spur is a three year old bird, an 1 1/4 is a four year old bird and an 1 1/2" spur is a five year old bird. I would say the bird you got was an old wise one. Great job on killing such an old bird. They are by far the most alert wild animal in the woods. If they could smel like a deer they would be impossible to hunt. I got mine today 4-26-08 Kill time 9:45. 20 lbs, 1 1/4" spur and 9" rope. so far he is the smallest bird that I have ever killed. Oh well! They all have to die sometime right.
