coughing dog

i have a 9 year old beagle that has a bad cough and i was wondering what are some causes and treatments i could use,any help would be appreciated thanks alot,he sounds like he's choking sometimes

It might be kennel cough. If so, you need to go to your vet and they can give you medicine to help. It's basically a cold like you or I could get and takes a week or 2 to run it's course.

If the dog has not been on a heart worm preventative, I would first have them checked for heart worms.

It could also be a simple case of "kennel cough. Have they been vaccinated for all types of kennel cough?

I give mine childrens cough syrup..like Robittussion and a antibiotic when they had kennel cough,,Shannon

Coughing is also a sign of worms if hasnt been wormed out in awhile might try that
