well since rabbits season is over in most places I thought I would throw out this question and see what you guys and gals throw back. Now I know we all don't run in the same terrain or weather conditions so here goes. how many days do you hunt during the season, I know some folks run year round for a couple of hours each during the week, But what I really want to know is under hard hunting conditions how much can you run before it starts to wear and tear on your hounds. May the truth be told----------------------------

Well, i try to run at least 2 times a week, every week, and then trial on Saturday. Sometimes thats not the case. We run for about 3 hours, give or take an hour. That depending on the heat and amount of running im having. If the dogs are acting stupid, and really getting under my skin, im not out there as long. Best for them, cause im usually ready to kill them on those days. If the running is going really good, and all is well, i can stay for hours and it doesnt bother me.
On the dogs getting tired, usually i cant get them tired on the amount of time i have to run. Couple times a week for 3 or 4 hours is no problem for the dogs. They are worn down by then, dont get me wrong, but are still going strong.
I like dropping them in Oneal's pen, and on the 6th hour, having to chase them down and pull them off a rabbit.

We ran 2 or 3 times a week as weather and work allowed. We run 5 or 6 times a week in the summer because I can go after I get off work. I never had the problem of the dogs giving out, it is always me that wears down and has to take a break.

I hunt about 3 to 5 days a week 2to 3 hrs. on weekdays and 5to7 hrs on weekends.I only have problems with one he is a 9yr. old male that gets real stiff after about a 4-5 hr day.I only take him once a week.I have 3 females that are between 2 and 6 yrs. that are always ready to go and do fairly well. The deep snow is what I find usually takes it out of them.

I try to run a few hours behind the house everyday if I get the chance or the weather permits. Not a lot of rabbits but enough to get the dogs hunting and some exercise. May jump two somedays and other days none. I give them about 40 minutes and if no rabbits are jumped i put them up. Keeps them very interested. In the spring and summer we get a lot more rabbits up. I have a couple wild cats that need shot.

Job and church activities only allow me to run about three times a week and I usually run about three hours each run through the week and 5--6 hours on Saturday.

Usually 3 to 4 times during the week and on Saturday--if weather and work permit. Time runnin' depends on the location and weather conditions. If it's HOT we stay home.

ok heres what I was looking for, I hunt my hounds mostly on the weekends, noted I run my hounds during the off season in the evening for a couple of hours with no wear and tear on them, but when its comes to lets get in the bushes and really get after the bunnies we hunt from daylight untill 1:00 or 2:00 in the afternoon then stop for a sandwich and a soda, give the hounds an hour or so break then hunt untill dark. If I hunt friday afternoon then saturday and sunday all day my hounds tend to need about a day to recover. I need about three days myself he-he starting to slow down in my old age. By the end of the third day I notice that my hounds slow down some in there search speed but if they jump the race is on. Come monday they seem to lay around and recoupe from the weekend. Even when our hounds are in top shape how many days can you run your hounds before they blow up or they get the gears run out of them hunting 8 hours a day or more.

If mine are in good shape then I would say 2-3 days max and then I'd have to put them up for a day or two. I run as many days as I can and it's usually for 2-4 hours each time out although this year has been a lot less than normal for me. Last year I would run 2-4 days during the week for 2-4 hours each time out and then Saturday for 8-9 hours and Sunday for 4-6 hours (if mine let me) and they would usually need Monday and maybe part of Tuesday to recover depending on whether we were running on bare ground or deep snow, thickets or more open areas. The recovery time usually depends on how "beat up" they get.
