I have a litter of puppies that one got sick so I went to the vet and he gave him a shot of pinicillin.
I have heard of giving fish pinicillin to dogs. Can I reduce it so that I can give it to the rest of the litter, when they come down with what he has?
6 week old pup. 6#s
VeT said it wasn't Provo. Infection from mothers milk.
I don't want to pay $129 per pup when I have 6 more pups.
Jason

P.s. you guys and girls are a great help.

If others develop the same symptoms, talk to your vet about medicine for them without a complete workup like the first one had. My vet is good about doing so with things like kennel cough. It is less stressful on them to not go to the office and expose them and the other dogs there unnecessarily. In regard to your original question, I do not feel good about using the fish products. If I were going to give penicillin, I would use the injectable (IM type) from the feed store instead. However, you need to do some research to determine if it is effective against that particular type of bacteria.

Just don't make the mistake some people have made in giving penecillin to their hounds when it seems they have a cold. Colds are caused by a virus and are unaffected by penecillin...........Tony
