have a breed bitch that is due for a 7-way, should i wait until pups are born, then give her a shot? Or can i give it to her now? Thanks Tom Gingrich

Do not vaccinate her while pregnant. It can cause deformed mouth/lips. Don't know the medical term but I have read this more than once. It won't hurt to let it go until the pups are born.

i know a guy who just lost his entire litter of reggie pups the day after he wormed the female. I have been told not to give shots or wormers the entire preg. i have also seen guys worm the female two weeks before the due date and never had any problems. To me, it isn't worth the risk...my dogs are always current with vaccinations and wormers.

I gave a bitch a 8-1 shot while she was pregnant and it didn't seem to bother anything.

My vet won't give vaccinations of any kind to a pregnant bitch. Like Pike Ridge says, it won't hurt them to wait a couple of months on the vaccination. The only thing I know for sure is safe to give them during pregnancy is Interceptor. You can keep them on their regular heart/gut worm regimen during pregnancy if you're giving that. I wouldn't say that about Ivermectin, though. They are totally different compounds.

Never vaccinate a pregnant bitch! She can wait until those puppies are weaned. How old is she? Dogs that are 3 years old or older do not need these yearly vaccinations. Those shots mainly cover puppy disease and adult dogs have already built up good immunity to those diseases. By vaccinating each year you are compromising the immune system.

This is who i get my advise from!! Leah has helped me out several times, and as far as i'm concerned her and Bev are my source of wisdom. Anytime i have had to figure out something or needed quick advise these two have been there! I will always be thankful for there help and take any inforamtion they give to heart.

A lot of breeders have different Idea's on vaccinating. Here are some good sites for reading about WHY we are over vaccinating our dogs. I no longer give vaccines beyond the yearly booster other than rabies because I'm forced to. That I only do every 3 years. If your vet is writing your rabies for 1 or 2 years in older dogs ask them to make it a 3 year. same vaccine just the vets discretion.
