A general forum for the discussion of hunting with beagles, guns, clothing and other equipment and just talking dawgs! (Tall tales on hunting allowed, but remember, first liar doesn't stand a chance)
This is a quote from a fellow beagler that I think hits it on the head here.
"The only aspect of all this that gets a little under my skin personally is that there are those that will attempt to defend any comments about his non hunting background with comments about ancestors that may have been used as hunting dogs. Thats just plain silly and detracts from the dogs accomplishments. It would be like a hunter trying to qualify his dogs appearance by saying there are show dogs 4 or 5 generations removed in it's lineage. There may be but that won't make your dog an UNO just like one or two dogs that could hunt somewhere in UNO's heritage won't make him a snowhound. "
The fact he isn't a hunting dog doesn't dtract at all from his accomplishments either, just an opinion.
Sav, not defending ole UNO but I've seen a lot of beagles at a Hunting Dog Field Trial that I wouldn't take home if you paid me unless there was an animal shelter on the route home. We all place importance on different traits of a beagle. I don't know any thing about his hunt or stamina but judging from other Show Bred beagles that I have seen the odds are pretty good that he would hunt if given a chance. He would probably run hit and miss but I think he would give the effort.
heck i would love to drop that purdy lil thing down in blackberry thicket lol...if that hound could run a rabbit half as good as he looks he would be alright with me...he sure is purdy to look at...i think as a hunting hound though his ol tail wouldnt look that purdy no more...

shot, i wouldnt try hunting him. he is worth way to much, to take him out in a field and have him get hurt or killed. now i would breed one of my bitch's to him and keep the litter and get them started.
hunts or not it is a good thing to see a beagle doing great in what he does. He is prettier than any stuffed animal you could make. Congrats to Uno. Good day for beagles everywhere. I like watching the dog shows, and if any dog was gonna win Best of Show, I'm glad it was Uno. I hunt my dogs as often as possible and they show it.But I see nothing wrong with a great show animal, and he is a great one. Again, congrats to Uno, this is your day in the sun!

i was gonna stay out of this but decided to put my 2cents in. why should we care if he hunts or not? he is representing our breed. i have read a lot of Lea`s posts on here & she has always been helpful & respectful to all,no matter if we hunt or show. i hunt, but i`d be proud to have him in my kennel if he could run a rabbit or not. lot of hard work , dedication, & sacrifice went into that hound, lets just be happy for them , they deserve it.

You know what they say, bill...if you like the dog and want one like him, go to his sire (or dam). You remember the threads about Leah's dog Parker, and the pictures, and all that jazz? Parker is Uno's Daddy.
