La meets Texas Hunt of the Year

Post by ycedy »

After leaving Houston and driving over five hours we got to Keinan's house at 4am. We had been talking about a big hunt for awhile. We had ten hound and Keinan bought four of his dogs. We had some of his cousins join us. We decided to hit a spot he said would be great running. We dropped dogs at 7am. Within three minutes the dogs were in FULL CRY. We had Patch,Satsuma,Red Dogs of Chris and Walter. The music echoed as along the Mississippi as we tried to get set for a shot. There were about 11 of us in the hunt. Then a shot the another one in the bag dogs were running the hair off these rabbits. We had non stop swamp rabbit action for three solid hours. There was so much action I thought I would I might have to dip my gun in the river to cool of my red hot barrel. At one point I thought we were in a war zone. We only hunted about three hours and killed about twenty rabbit and two coon we caught sunning. We loaded dogs went the Keinnan's house and got ready for some of the best food in the parish. They cooked fish, red beans, rice and rabbit. This was day one of two. I will post pic soon as I down load. In our hunt we had Keinnan, Chis H., Walter and son Walley Wall and Keinnan's cousins. On this day it would have taken a monster pack of hounds to top our dogs. The action was so fast if you would blink these fast hounds would have pushed the swamper by.
Thanks
Keinnan
This was the best hunt of the year.
Stay tuned for part 2 The second day hunt.

Ok now it is Sunday. This is day two of the best hunt of the year. Same group we met at the local store for coffee @ 6am and they decided to take us to a place that would test both man and dog. This was an area maybe 300 acers grass patch with tall briars that a wood line border. We dropped at 7am crossed a small canel, went threw the woods to the grasspatch. The dogs bumped and got mr swamper started then it was on FULL CRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Back and forth out of hearing we got set. There was another canal before the big grasspatch. I waited there, Chris moved down the canel and we got set. The dogs ran this one about 15 min before he came between Chris and I. One he jumped I let that Sweet16 go miss, I shot again miss Then Chris and I shot the rabbit rolls. I said I hit Chris said he did lol. Well we had first one of the day. Dog jumped and pushed more rabbit by us all in the party got to shoot. The dogs were running like they were posessed. I was about 10:30 dogs were bloody from ears and tail but non let up Walter dog Smoke and Chris' Bud hung in with the young dogs and impressed all that was there. Well we jumped one more this swamper wanted to live he ran for his life. They pushed him across the canel several times they ran him 1hr 45min and only had to short checks. Walter finally put a end to the race with that little 410. WOW what a hunt and dogs did great. We bagged ten now it was time for more of the best food around.
Keinnan thanks again for hosting this hunt.

Super photos and rundown on a good hunt. All the ingredients are there in the photos.... good cover, fine hounds, and friends having a great time in the field. ycedy, I think I can speak for all who read the post.... we appreciate you folks who can and will take time to photograph and write a good hunting report for the forum.

The hunt was one to be remembered, 2 days balls to the wall running, plenty of rabbits and good freinds it just dont get any better than that. I think I am going to talk about that 1Hour 47Minute race for a long time.

To Chris Herpin, for a 8 year old hound to compete and stay down with with a young fast speed pack like we dropped
GrCH BUD is one heck of a hound.

Walt, Wally, Ced,Chris thanks for coming to Louisiana lets do it again every year.

Well, I finally got a chance to get on here. To say the least, I really enjoyed myself. The hunt was great. The best part to me was that 1 hour 45 minute race. I'll remember it till my last day. I know there are races that are embedded in the minds of a lot of people. That's why we do what we do. The Southern hospitality was also at the top of my list of bests. The new friends made, and the food were tops. Keinan, thanks for the compliment on Bud. The whole pack did a great job. You can bet your last dollar that I'll be back if I get the invite. Thanks for everything. Chris
