question about breeding.
I have a red and white tri color that has a copper nose and a little red ticking up her front leg. When i say little i mean like 5 or 6 spots. I want some red tick pups so i looked and looked and looked some more and finially found the red tick i wanted to breed her to. He is from a long line of ticks and his dam and sire were both ticks grandparent etc... I wanted to breed her cause i like the way she hunts and and love the way she trails. What are the odds i get some red tick pups. I really want some that look just like there DAD.The reason i ask is someone told me in order to get redtick pups you have to breed two red ticks. I dont know about breeding, just hunting.
Re: question about breeding.
Pretty is as pretty does. If you want a redtick great, but find one who is a real rabbit hound. Color is the easiest thing to breed for, a good hunting dog is not. Just my two cents.
As far as good red dogs Merle Crains line of red dogs is pretty nice. I am not a fan of his kennel, and they dont have enough speed for me, but they are nice rabbit dogs. I would find something from his line if you want decent hunting dogs with a lot of red in em.

Re: question about breeding.
I have some of brother Rickeys dogs. A male and a female that im fixing to get started. I live in Killian, Louisiana and I have been to his kennel. The pup that is open marked is not blue ticked. I was not sure by looking on the website that I was going to like the looks of his dogs But when I went to his kennel to see I found out that they look really nice. The pictures on the website doesn't give them any just. I really thought that the pups were ugly on the website. He doesn't own a blue tick. That pup is a chocolate red tick. When I got there boy was I suprised Ithought he had some blue ticks. I also Know a man that has a good male in Sorrento,Louisiana that is a redtick. Look on the top 100 beagle websites and you will see Tickled beagles some were in the top 20. His dog is from that kennel off of Rebles Last Chance. The man in Sorrento also has (2) females from brother Rickeys kennle. Both Big Creek Kennles and Tickled Beagles are Hanks Jo Jo Blue Breeding and have extrem hunt and are good check dogs that is the reson I got mine from Brother Rickey. Now to answer your question they will be ticked for sure. I don't know if they will all be red like your female but if she has already thrown some red pups you will deffintly get some because it is dominte color in both there males. I also have seen some of there pups that were breed to black creeks and all of them came out blue ticked. They were all ticked but don't ask me why blue. If you have any questions give me an e-mail at cmpkhaos@yahoo.com I will be glad to help you any way possible.

I have to agree with Duke. I am a new beagler, and am being instructed by one of the best. Color is easy to breed for, however, if you get the color you want and the pups cannot hunt, you wasted your time. Try to stay with the better hunting lines, research this first, and then within your research you may throw the color you want. K

Re: question about breeding.
Thanks for the input fellas. I like the hunt of my jip and love the way she trails she stays in nice and close (most of the time). I didnt just breed her cause i could and i didnt breed her to the first stud i came across, i did try and find the one i wanted and the color i wanted. I dont trial as i dont know anything about it but i am looking to learn a little bout it and maybe get involved. I dont see any reason i cant breed for a dog i wanna look at and one i wanna hunt. I have talked to a few people about the color of pups and every on seems to give me a little flak about dont breed for color just for hunt. Well, i am gonna have my cake and eat it too. Only person these pups gotta make happy is me. I am gonna give a couple to my boys and let em grow up togethor and learn about rabbit hunting with there own dog. thanks again!!

Ya know, I am sorry if I have you flak. I think it's awesome that you are wanting to have fun with this sport. Your kids will absolutely love the pups, (beagles are wonderful pets) and I am sure the pups will run the rabbits. We have to keep the beagle hunting going, and you're down the right track with your kids....kids are everything! I am into this for other reasons; I am competitive and would like to see my boy do it all, and maybe start my own line. I am sure we will continue to talk, because I would like to hear how your pups turn out. Keena
