Green Bay Jifka her 1st hare hunt.

Post by BuschBound »

On December 15th a few of us guys had planned a hare hunt together and we all met at a friend house somewhere in the upper half of the United States.. There were 8 guys and 9 dogs in total. Some of us split up and went different directions. Alot of these dogs were young dogs, under the age of 3 yrs old. The conditions were not that good. The temp in the morning at about 7am was about -15 below and had not had snow in about 1o days. The snow was like sugar.
For the most part the conditions were pretty tough going and the dogs did thier best. We all seemed to still have a good time hanging out together and afterwards enjoys a venison dinner at the cabin. After the hunt the talk of the day was how this young 5 1/2 month old ran this hare flawless under the tough conditions. Joe Kuklenski the owner of Jifka was very please with his little hound as he should be. Some of the fewer older hounds we had at times really mad it look hard going. At the end of the day we ended up with 8 hare. We left alot of Hare go just to see how the dogs would handle the tough checks, crossing roads, ect... also we let alot of side jumpers go..

This is a list of guys with thier hounds.

Kevin Orr- Natures Newborn Shania, Natures Newborn Jewel, Shadowed Acres Gretchen
Joe Kuklenski- Green Bay Jifka, Green Bay Maggie
Dave Martin- Green Bay Big Booty Judy
Jeremy Derosso- Snow Run Windy
Thane Page- Pages Sam
We also had two young hunters with us and thier father they too had a dog I just can't remeber the name of it. Sorry..

Most of the hounds we had were Ranger Dan bred this little bitch of Joe's was out of IFC Green Bay Shooter X FC HBC Green Bay Wiley

Here is two Pics of Jifka with her 1st North American Hare!

Joe K has always had some top knotch hounds .The ole timer Bernard Mullinex Mtn State kennel said the pups mother WILEY was one the best 13 bitches he'd seen in a lot years. He tried to get Joe K to price her after watching her run in a midwest trial where he says she was absolutely awesome.Saw Wiley in the snow 2006 at nlpc last year definitely a top knotcher.

Dave, I guess I better quit screwing around and get mine running. The male I have looks a lot like Jifka. Maybe I could get Joe to trade for one of the females. Just kidding, it sounds like you guys were testing out the nose power.

Bryan out of the 5 Joe kept I asked him if this was his better of the group. He said she about # 3 of the five. I'd like to see the other two that are better. I've been buggin him on getting one of these pups. He must have like ya! When he brought her out of the box All I could do is just laugh. She was darn near the same size of the hare. After watching her run I was not laughing anymore. WOW!! Good luck with yours. Dave

Norwester, We were hunting in about 4-6 inches of snow. It's been pretty cold here the last few weeks. It's suppose to warm up this week. in the high 20's to 30's should make it for some nice days out hunting.

Sounds like it was fun regardless of the cold weather Dave. Good hounds and good friends have a way of warming things up a little. Supposed to get some warmer weather up here too this week..........although more snow is on the way as well.

I've got a pup that Joe bred. She is out of shooter and Mand Molly. She turned a year in September but she shows alot of talent. Small and freckled up like Jifka..........Any way I've posted this video before but I'll post it again if any one is interested in watching it. I'm hooked on the Ranger Dan stuff....Dh The last 30 seconds of the video show some nice tight line work

Hey Dave,
What a screwed up year. We have about 15 to 18 inches here :D and up at the cabin only about 6 inches. My Dad, a friend and I went Saturday and got 5 cottontails in about 4 hours. They would run for a while then would dive in the snow and run underneath for about 15 to 20 yards then pop up on top again. We don't shoot until the hounds circle, really tested the hounds. Only bad thing was I forgot to bring the camera. We're suppose to get another storm thursday. I'm hoping to get up to the cabin between Christmas and New Years to run some snowshoe.

Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year to everyone.

Thanks, I like her alot. Right now I'm trying to get her out in the woods and shooting some rabbits over her. She's rabbit crazy.
