Most of my dogs are 14 or 15 in .Although I will have to say its not the size of the dog as it is the size of his heart that matters to me.

good point

This is actualy a good question. The size beagle I like best is a 13" to 13" 1/2 In a weight range of 22lbs.-25lbs. The reason is because of the type of terrain I hunt in. the 13 1/2" beagle is not popular with the field trialers in the midwest, but I like the size for hunting in our type of cover. We have our share of woven wire fences, heavy briars, cattail swamps, and at times we have alot of snow for cottontials. Here in Indiana. :D

Good point Dan!
I’m with Don on the size, but I like the to be a little lighter in weight. I also hunt some places a smaller size dog is needed—bull dozed root wads, old cars, fallen down barns and buildings, just spots a smaller dog can get into a little better. I just think a dog that is smaller has an easier time getting where a rabbit might be hiding.

I guess the deer hunter still lives in me and that's why I like those 14''+ dogs but mine actually range from 11'' to 14.5''. As long as they run the same speed, it don't really matter. I just like the looks of the taller dogs.

I AM LIKE SWAMPER, I PERFER A 14" DOG BUT I ALSO ENJOY HEARING A PACK RUN TOGETHER. WE HAVE SOME BRUSH UP HERE & SOMETIME IT TAKES A LITTLE BIGGER TO GET THRU IT.

12 to 13 1/2 is my choice. I just like the smaller beagles and I have a small bluetick that can run with the big hounds all day  . Where I hunt is very thick cover and I think a smaller hound can get through it better. :D

I prefer a 15 to 16 inch hound. I like speed and drive but they have to be a hard hunter also. Where I live I am the only person who hunts this size beagle. Most have 13 to 14 inch beagles.

 I prefer under 13" simply put they get through the thick stuff much easier than the taller dogs do. allot of blown down trees with multiflora rose etc. and the smaller dog just follows where the rabbit tries to hide while the bigger dog has to work much harder and will often times try to avoid the thick stuff expecting the rabbit to comeout of the other side makes for long checks while the smaller dog has allmost no checks in this situation. Not all situations in more open country I would probably like a bigger dog. Whatever the terrain and cover dictate. John Antunes

I like full sized 15" hounds the best. They can handle deep powder snow better and that's what I'm after. :)
