Nice looking pups

She did an awesome job for her first time around. Only one OMG moment, that if I had not been attending at 2am I would have lost mother and pup both more then likely. Was the most "clean" puppy birthing I have ever ettended. She barely even got anything wet. She cleaned up every bit of wet stuff before it even the bedding (incontinence pads worked GREAT). But the one pup was breech and the placenta actually came out with the head, she swallowed the placenta immediately and the umbilical cord, still attached to the puppy. Pup went into her mouth and stuck there. She was choking. I actually had to pull the cord a little to make her gag, so I could get it back out and cut the cord.

WOW !!! THat's a scarey story I'm glad everything went well for you though .

Bitches get in a hurry and do stupid things when their made nervous.
Every bitch I've had ate the placenta, then, chewed the cord while the whole works were still attached together. My guess is, you had your hands in on the breech pup and she thought you were interfering with her birthing and got in a hurry, but it's good all came out well...

I've never understood putting the ribbons on, I'd be afraid the bitch would become ingrossed at getting them off and choke a pup...

Good luck bring them up, no double they'll be kept well cleaned...

Actually I didnt have my hands on the pup at the time, but you can bet I did after it was in her mouth, and she was choking. The ribbons are on for ID purposes.

I know what you mean. I experience something very similar with one of the pups that were born 3 weeks this coming Monday.

I had 6 pups and 3 were breach that needed assistance with one of the breached pups choking on a mouthful of blood once her head came out. She needed assistance for a few minutes to get her going.

While momma was tending to the umbilical cord, we were tending to the choking pup and the amount of blood and fluid it had swallowed.

Congrats Tiffini, nice looking litter! What's the male/female count?
I'll have to post pics of thier 4 month old cousins-LOL!

Marras, we got 4 girls and 2 boys. Misty is doing a real good job of tending everyone.

The ribbons came off today, they were just on for ID purposes during the birthing process to keep them straight til we got them weighed and marked after they were dry. I can tell you now their birth order, just looking at them.

Just curious, but why do you care what order they were born in?
