Lost a Good one

Yesterday was a tough one, had to put down my Chelsea girl. Got into the truck to leave the yard and backed over her, she was lying in the shade underneath. I feel like a complete heel... She was ten years old and was one of the best dogs I have had. This summer I let her out of the pen and she was free to roam in the yard, because she was getting too old to go far. In the mornings she would run hare up back and be on the porch by noon, lame and tired. I buried her behind the house, with one of my hunting shirts over her so she would have me with her on her journey. I'm gonna miss her.

SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS, I DON'T KNOW WHY THIS HAPPENS BUT WHEN IT DOES, YOU ALWAYS LOSE YOUR BEST. BUT TRY NOT TO WORRY. THERE IS A BIGGER KENNEL IN THE SKY. I KNOW BECAUSE I HAVE 3 OR 4 THERE ALREADY.

Have no regrets as Im sure you gave her ten years of devotion, love and care. Even the freaky things happen for a reason, and you should feel as they must have needed another good check hound in the "big pack". Im very sorry to hear of your loss.

Acomeau,
I hope if I come back to earth as a dog, I can have an owner who is kind enough to let me run loose when I get old and lay on the porch when I get tired. Don't feel like a heel, it wasn't your fault. Things are going to happen with dogs. Instead of feeling heelish, feel proud of yourself for loving her enough to let her do what she loved. That's every old rabbit dog's dream. I'm sorry for your loss, I know it way too well. Keep your head up. MIKE
