A Sad Day At Pawpaws Kennels

It looks like my very special hound "Peaches" is in her last hours. She has not eaten well for more than 10 days and yesterday she started to vomit up what little she did eat. This morning I took her to the vet and after a lot of test and most of my money spent, he said that Peaches' kidneys have stopped working. He did not give her much hope for survival and recommended that I allow him to put her down.

I was not yet ready to give up this fine hound that has served me so well. The vet taught me how to administer an IV drip and sent us home. I have been giving her 50 to 100 cc of IV every two hours. The vet said that I did not need to try and get her to eat until she was able to pee. Along with the IV, I have been giving her pedilite with a syringe. I know she understands that I am doing all I can for her. Every once in a while I hear the thump, thump, thump of her tail.

Lacey came by today and had a chance to spend time with Peaches and say her last goodbyes. This was one time that she got to see a few tears in her old Pawpaws eyes.

Unless some miracle should come our way, Tomorrow I will be taking Peaches back to the vet and show this wonderful old hound one last act of kindness as he helps her to pass from this life. If there is a dog heaven, she will be there and if there are any rabbits she will be running them.

Mr. Cain…may the good Lord bless you with fond memories of your special hound. Here’s hoping Peach’s offspring…give you years of enjoyment.

Sorry to hear about Peaches. I know what you must be going through. We had to put one down a month ago for kidney failure as well. It was one of the hardest things we have ever had to do. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this time.
