Unplanned Breeding
I have been breeding beagles for about twenty years now, and this is the first time this has happened. My Gyp was on her 25 day of heat cycle. I checked her, all swelling was gone, no sign of spotting, and urine was clean. So I released her to the big pen. Before I could stop it, she attacked and raped my seven month old male and were knotted up. Does any one think that this pregnacey will happen? This is a planned cross but not for another year or so.

Sounds like a plan to me (not yours maybe, but . . . . . .)
Best of luck with your new pups. Just think of it this way - you were planning on making this cross anyway. Now you'll be running the pups instead of wondering how they will turn out (a year from now!!)

Let's Count Our Blessings, Not Our Problems!!
I hope you have better luck than I did last month at finding a vet to administer that shot...I tried 6 different vets and each one told me that they could do the shot, but would not. VERY FRUSTRATING as I had a unplanned breeding between AKC female and grade male. My female was about 36 hours away from the breeding with the male I had planned on breeding to. Good luck!!! Tony

Just a note on that shot. I think you only have twenty four hours after the mating to get the shot. If you want to abort the pregnancy after that the only other option is surgery which would sterilize the female. This came from my Vet. Another note: chain link fence is a "penetrable" barrier. Anyone interested in Chesapeake Bay Retreiver/ Brittany pups?
