I have talked to people that will only run males..or run females. Just a poll to see what hunters run and why for your personal preference.
Thought it might be interesting discussion.

I really have no preference when it comes to gun hunting but trialing I prefer a male it seems like about the time the females are really doin good they come in heat.

Doesn't matter to me. I will say I've seen more better females than males. Then again a lot of guys around here run only females.

I agree with Droptine doesn't matter but I too have seen more good females over the years.

Champion male = possibly stud enough to get part of your trial and feed money back .

Champion female = one litter per year pays for your feed , float your own bill on the trials . Wife leaves takes the house and the dogs
You have nothing but the clothes on your back  . Time to start looking for another dog ( a male this time ) .

I am indifferent.
I like females a little better, but 6 weeks a year they are a hassle.
3 of those weeks are guaranteed to occur during rabbit season.

If you are going to own one dog, it should be a male.

Been in this sport along time,I have found a few females that can the job done and this is good for the sport,But for me nothing beats running or hunting with male hounds.

I don't really care as long as they get the job done. My dad told me when we use to coon hunt it was better to have a good female because when you needed new dog you could pick your male pay fee and get what you want. If you have the male you can't always pick your female.

I don't care just as long as the job gets done. But if I had to choose then I'd go with a males

I have really liked my Female ( Evans Lady in Red ) but she has come into heat at the wrong time once sof far. This happend to me in the finals at the North American a couple of years back DANG the bad luck.

I have a Male pup out of her that I think Im going to keep and start going to males now!

The females I have had around all ways handled better than the males, and they seem to start hunting right off the tailgate while the males are wandering around looking for something to hike their leg on. With that being said it seem like every time I make plans to do something with my females they come in heat. Males you can hunt/run 24-7. :D

I have all males in my kennel. The only fault that I have to a female is, just we you need her the most she comes in heat. However, if she gets the job done it definately wouldn't keep me from buying her.

i think there are more good females than males. Imo males are either really good or really bad. It's true you loose a lot of hunting during the heat cycle, but a male has to pee on everything, hump everything, and then spin out a few times before they go hunting. I'll keep my pack of females.
