Coat your legs with vaseline and wear sweat pants to bed. Also try caladryl cream which has benadryl in it also. Help pull me through the worst case this year I have ever had.

The best thing I found to help topically was the Band-Aide brand gel or "Itch-X", available at about any drugstore. It used to be called Rhule or something like that. I also took Benadryl. The first 3 days were murder, by the 5th day I was almost back to human.
a fellow just told me

When you return from a day in the field ,when you forgot to use any kind of repellent, bathe with Octagon soap and you will take care of the chigger problem.

Have ya ever been bit by a bee?? LOL Well it ain't that bad but it will itch like the devil. it just keeps itchin and itchin and itchin like stinging nettles. if you never got in a patch of stinging nettles when you were young, you are missing out big time. A chigger is a little bitty bug sort of like a flea that likes to live in grass or just about anywhere outside there is vegetation. Never thought about it but guess they are only in certaian parts of the country. They are in SE Iowa bit I don't have much problem with them if you don't woller in the grass. They bite you before you feel them and the result is a whole bunch of bites that itch like mad before you can do anything about it. I have found that triple antibiotic salve helps tremedously in stopping the itch and redness and they heal much quicker.

if i were to hear these symptoms from someone upnorth..i would say it sounded like mites....just like sarcoptic mange on a dog or dust mites in your house.....people can get the mange mites from dogs also...they seem similar to what i am reading here about chiggers...however, the recovery process is abit longer...itching can last 2 to 3 weeks....

We call them redbugs down here, but I am sure we are talking about the same thing. They will itch you so bad that it is actually painful. I will wipe the area down with rubbing alcohol first, then coat it good with Calamine.
