Lost Hounds-Update

How long have you guys/gals had hounds go missing and still gotten them back?

Our 2 best males Gunner and Dozer were let out of their kennel by my 4 yr. old on Monday and they are still gone. They both have collars with contact info on them. I put an ad in the local paper and a woman about 2 miles from us called and said they were running rabbits near her place on Wed. She said they were almost hit by a car twice and she tried to catch them but they were too scared. They are both very friendly so I'm wondering if people have been harrassing them. We've been driving all over but haven't seen or heard anything and no one has called. I'm starting to lose hope as this will be the 5th night they are gone. Has anyone gotten hounds back that were gone longer? How long were they gone?

Thanks, Stacy

I know your little one feels awful about this, comfort them, the hounds know their way home ;) ...Patch

Yes, he is feeling pretty bad. It's my own fault really, I know that he loves to get in the kennels with the hounds and they have a tendency to slip out on him. I should have had the doors padlocked or something. They've both been gone overnight before, but never this long.

Casey was gone for a week one time, a cute little cocker had him corraled over the other side of the highway. I had a hard time talking the little boy back out of him, he'd put them in a kennel pen together and they were getting along fine...
Keep checking, they'll come in somewhere... :crossfingers:

I have had dogs gone for 3 weeks. They were a little shy until they realized they were home. If they left from home, Patch is right they will find the way back.

Years agot I lost two hard hunting little females. I found them running a rabbit about a week later with no hair left on their faces. Providing they don't get hit by a car you will get them back. Keep checking out your window because they should return.

I ost two females once, I got a call a week later and they were 30 miles from where I was running them. I always keep a collar on them with my name, number and REWARD IF FOUND.

I lost one for a little over a month and got it back. There was a story on here a while back of a fella that lost one for well over a year. He happened to be driving by another guys house and saw the dog tied out. He stopped and the guy that had the dog tied out said it had wandered around for a couple of weeks and he finally gave it some food and tied it up. He promptly gave the dog back and it was in great condition. If you do enough searching on here you'll find the story, but that is the jist of it. So don't give up hope yet. Good luck.

Thanks for the replies everyone, it helps knowing that you guys have had or know of hounds that have made it back safely after an extended time. They did leave from home so I'm hoping they'll find their way back or get hungry enough to stop at someone's house. Hopefully they will steer clear of the roads.

I lost a female last February and after going back to the spot several times a day for a few days had given up hope. I posted a big sign on a pole near where I had lost her and after being gone for over three weeks I got a call from some people very near where I had lost her and drove out and got her back. She somehow managed to make it through some of the worst weather we had last year, a few nights below 0. You might want to try posting some signs with your number on it in case someone sees them but can't catch them to get number off the collar, my female was hesitant to come to me after being gone for so long.

I plan on doing this today, maybe it'll work.
