Been runing about two or three days a week all summer and had my first snake bite saturday morning; looks like a cooperhead bite. it was my little female lil bo and it bite her just between the nose and eye and she had alot of swelling that went all the way under her chin but the swelling has went down and she looks like she is out of danger now...

those copper heads will make'em feel sick for a day or so but thats about it.my dogs that have been bitten,the bite its self even healed fine w/o scaring.what did you give her?,penecillon works great for the swelling,getting that swelling down is a must so they can eat after being bitten on the face. its also good for infection.

yea ryan i shot her up with penecillon and she had alot of swelling sat. and sun but it has gone down alot today and she apears to be feeling better.

be very care full for what u wish for. there is rattle snake in mi. not very common but they are there. the more blue racer u see the better.

I lived in Mich.33 years, you got watch out for those Hoop snakes as well.

Now the Pennsylvania hoop snake is something to be reckoned with. It is long, and its colors vary with the type of whisky you've been drinking. But everyone agrees that you can tell a hoop snake from a regular snake by the way it moves. When a hoop snake travels around, it grabs its tail (with the poison stinger at the end) in its mouth and rolls along until it sees something it wants to sting. Then it whips the stinger out of its mouth quick enough and lashes out with its tail.

One feller I knew, he was hoeing in his field when a hoop snake came rolling towards him. He ducked behind his hoe, figuring he was a goner, but the snake's tail hit the hoe instead of him, and there it stuck. Well, he just high-tailed it out of there right quick and headed for home. He knew he had to to wait until dusk to get his hoe. Hoop snakes what get into fights never die before sundown. Sure enough, he went back after sundown, and that hoop snake was as dead as your average doornail. The handle of the hoe was so swollen up with poison that the farmer had it cut up and shingled his barn with it. 'Course, I happen to know that they all fell off after the first big storm because the rain washed the poison right out of them. But you can't blame a feller for trying.

Is the MI hoop snake any thing like this ?

Hillbilly, I hope your hound recovers with no problems... There is a chance that she may never go face to face with any more snakes. I jump on every chance to make a pitch for Snake Advodiance Training. I do not see many copper heads here on the Mississippi Coast, but we have lots of rattlers and cotton mouths. Over the years I have lost my share of fine hounds to snakes, but have never had a "Snake Advodiance Trained" hound get bit. It may be luck or it may be that they learn to stay clear of snakes.

ahh the dreaded hoop snake,
we have had several copperhead bites over the years,mostly when running by water ponds.i havent used any antibiotics for them but we do use an epinefirine pen if the dog starts to br4eathe funny,otherwise we just wait out the swell.the worst was 4 days on the front leg,swelled to where the dog couldnt roll over.we never had permanent damage though
