I need some suggestions on what to put around my kennels to get rid of fire ants. I have used all the so called fire ant poisons and after a couple of days they are back and have bought more friends. I currently have to put seven dust around each feeder to keep them out of the dog food. I have never seen so many fire ants as their is this year. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks. :angryfire:

I hate ants....

I have had problems this year with them invading the kennels. They like to crawl up the leg of my above ground and get into the self feeder. It makes me pretty mad so I know how you feel.

I use seven dust. I sprinkle alot around the legs of my above ground kennel. That keeps them away for a week or so. Then I re-apply as needed.

I can't wait for cold weather........no more bugs ants flies......

When I lived down in SC we used to soak the ant hill in disel fuel and then light it after it soaked in. It seemed to work from what I remember....

I have the same problem in my kennels and have tried everything, but nothing is 100%. What I have found that works better than most is a product called Spectracide (sp) I get it at Ace Hardware and spray it around my feeders ( remove the dogs untill the product dries ) and soak the legs to my above ground whelping box. This usually works for several weeks before you have to do it all over again. Something else I do is clean my kennels with Dawn dishwashing liquid, it gets rid of the trail the ants follow to the feeders but sometimes you have to clean it with Dawn twice before it works.

Over and out fire ant killer works real good put it on the ground around your kennel it will get rid of most bugs that travel accross or under ground

it should last about 6 months

Move........lol. But not to Texas - they have 'em, too. You might consider above-ground kennels. Do the rascals crawl up to get to dogs?

Back when I was in college and worked for the USDA during summers I found what I believed as they were called imported fire ants which was later confirmed by entomolgists at NC State University my almamater . At that time it was big news.My disappointment lied in the fact at the infancy of their presence to NC nothing was ever done to try to eradicate them which included education/eradication.Sadily farmers, loggers, construction crews, and even the militairy were never encouraged to wash their equipment or anything for that matter. Now their endemic and at epidemic porportions as if it were a disease of mammals or reptiles. When I inquired about a control program they said it would cost to much money and take an ever ending effort to control them. Now wildlife biologists state that they are a part in a large decline in rabbit and quail populations in warmer latitudes of the US including NC.BAYER sales a fire ant control powder in a Blue plastic container at walmart and lowes.Do not put on dogs or around their food as is toxic.Just a light dusting will kill thousands. It will require constant treating of mounds as they lay 1000's of eggs as all these hatch at different times underground. They will eventually grow wings and fly off to start new colonies.Requires persistence otherwise they will take over the kennel. Thanks USDA for nothing!Steve Church swamp dawg

Greg, if we could get the coyotes to go after all the Canada geese we'd have it made. Then we could start on the land outside of Indianapolis. I know I'm gonna jinx myself here, but I haven't seen as much as a flea here lately. I'm thanking my lucky stars...

Thanks everyone. I wonder about them eating little rabbits in their nest,my running pen is covered in them. I have had them eat little newborn rabbits that fell out of their nest boxes onto the wire several times,so they have to eat them in the wild!!!!

87 grade is the only thing I've ever used to completely rid my property of them.

There might be a mound or two in spring but come summer, nothing. I take no prisoners.

I hear chewing tobacco works really well. Cut off a hunk and leave on top of the fire ant mound.

The worker ants will take it down to the Queen.

When she comes up to spit....stomp her.

Rid all colonies of the Queen like this. Ants will be gone in no time!!!!
