Patch Hounds

I would like to hear the good and bad about patch hounds, you own or have seen

I like them for the most part.
They have good hunt, and most can roll. As a line of dogs if they lack anything it would be nose, or they can be tight mouthed.
On the plus side you dont see many Patch dogs coldt trail, or be too mouthy in general.

The right ones are.
Im not familiar with the Patch dogs in your area.

Ive seen 3 Patch HOunds run all of them were fast hard hunting,but some had better line control then others
I want an all aorund Good dog Fast but Line control is accurate and a good Jump and Check dog

I have had 3 and liked them all. I sold one earlier in my days just because I couldnt train it right without a collar to break it off deer. I think one thing that has helped , for the most part, people who breed or have some line of patch dog are gun hunters. They have bypassed all the trialin, and fad paper breeding that goes on in so many other lines, and just bred for gun dogs of their liking.

the few i have run with are just good all around dogs a friend of mine runs a patch dog n he is just good n every way big big mouth plenty of speed good line control good hunt need i say more in the kennel he is as layed back as they come no barking i have a daughter from the patch dog n she is 18 mnths old n runs like a 3 or 4 y/o started at 5 months n never looked back so i like the patch blood my buddy has jb

Take a trip to Rockwood Tenn. and chech out some 100% patch hounds with plowboy, or mabe some of his friends. They won't dissapoint you.

i dont know plowboy personaly but have chatted with him in pms n from the chats i have had he must be one helluve guy seems honest n knowledgble also he has some mitey fine looking patch dogs jb

I agree with SR Patch, Darrell's got about as good as you can get Patch wise, and he happens to be in PA. Pennsylvania has some of the best patch blood out there, I can get you some more info if you like, for the most part these guys do not trial but hunt their hounds HARD!!
