Anyone ever have a yote come out and bark and Bay at you? Was runnin today heard one went to shoot it over a hill and it popped up out of gun range and barked and bayed. Took a pop shot at it but thought it was odd.

I had it happen before down Home at Dads a couple of times.

this is a sighn of how brave their getting what you seen was probally a male he was letting you and others know that was his teritory you could probally go back and give a couple challenge calls with a call and kill him pretty eaisly

Had one last year do that when I was soloing a young male. It kept yipping & getting closer and closer, then seemed to back off a little. I picked up my dog & went somewhere else. I figured it was either trying to get my male to come to it, or it was trying to call in pack mates. I didn't want to take any chances.

I wish I had that problem.
All the ones I see are in high gear and going to other direction.

Have had that happen a couple of times running her in Mid MI.... most of the time I think its a warning to the dogs not to come any closer. Can't be sure of that, but that is how I have looked at it.

It happened to me last year in the spring. The dogs jumped a rabbit and ran it up a hill, turned left and I think it ran in a hole under an old abandoned home. As I was waiting for them to come back or pick a check I heard a dog bark in the opposite direction. My first thought was what are my dogs doing so far a way from the check area. I listened closely and after several more barks it went into the typical coyote howl/squeal. I had no gun nor anything else to protect the dogs so I immediately started calling the dogs, leashed them, and left. I run in that area all the time, see coyote sign, but have had no attacks so far. Last fall I ran into a coyote hunter there. I hope he keeps them thinned out.

We recently had one of our bitches come into heat, and I was sound asleep when my wife woke me up and told me to listen. Several coyotes were about 25 yards away from the kennel in a corn field just squeeling and barking away! We live in a loft over an old barn on a 44 acre farm, so I thought about mounting a red spotlight at the top of the roof peak, and trying to call them in close enough to shoot. I used to carry a small .38 Smith & Wesson airwieght while running dogs, and had one run about 20 yards away from me back on the ridge behind our house, but all I did was blow up dirt around it with that snubnose. I bought a Ruger Single Six with a 6 1/2" barrel now, and keep the CCI TNT 22 mag. hollowpoints in it. Let that little bastard try that now! The're pretty thick here!

thats what i carry the Ruger 22 mag. 100yds is too long for it. Got something brewing though. LOL>>>CANT WAIT .

OK, OK, Your killin' me! I'm a huge pistol fan, and if ya have something in mind for a coyote smokin' sidearm, ya just have to share! Let's make killing these things a joint effort! Most of the one's I've come across while running dogs haven't been more than 60 yards, and I do believe that Ruger could reach out and touch em' from that distance.

That's a warning howl/bark. The yote was warning others of your presence, they normally only do that when they see you coming. If you set up to call that yote you better do it from a different location than where he spotted you, this time of year I'd use the Ki-Yi (pup in distress). If you do shoot him, keep calling for a couple minutes you'd be surprised by how many will come in after you already shoot one. Good Luck!

I carry a David Clements Custom Ruger Redhawk in 44 mag with 3.5 inch barrel. Somedays I carry my Glock 19 with Black Talon bulets. I have yotes livng behing my house but they are pretty timid due to the fact that I hunt and shoot out back year round.

nice gun. i carry my little ole 22. but keep hearing the rumors about mt lions being seen in these parts. thinking about sawing off a 12 gauge...lol want a wider pattern dont know if i can shoot and poop at the same time...lol

To be honest, I worry more about the human predator than wild animals.

As for yotes, I carry more when I am running young hounds or soloing a hound. I don't worry as much with my mature hounds although it never hurts to have gun and not need one. Bettter than the alternative.
