Ok I am going to start training my 2 yr old beagle here in a couple weeks. I was told to get a shock collar..But than someone else said get a tracking collar..He listens to me 99% of the time but I don't know how he would do with more dogs how well he would listen. So I need advise.

And what collars do u advise me to get?

buy you a good shocking system...it is worth it weight in gold. You can correct behavior as it happens...he may listen now..but that all changes in a deer race a little Vitamin E does wonders...E for Electricity that is.. good luck!

I good shock collar is an absolute MUST. A good tracking collar is a very good idea. If he does get out there and get after something he shouldn't, you want to be able to find him. Not meaning to scare you, but a few dogs have run the other way-away from their human- when shocked with a shock collar for the first time. Make sure your setting is just right to get his attention. If he's chasing something he shouldnt' turn it up!! You will learn as the dog learns.

A shock collar is a must. He may listen to you now 99% of the time, but when he gets on the scent of a rabbit it will be a whole nother story.

Shock collars may be the best invention ever for training.

ANYWAY,YES,A GOOD E-COLLAR IS A MUST,A TRACKING COLLAR IS A GOOD IDEA TOO,BUT AS FAR AS A SHOCKER,I WOULD DEFFINATELY BUY ONE WITH THE TONER OPTION IF I WHERE YOU.

Get your hound biddable and form a report with him first, a hound that works out of wont to please and bonded desire is rarely a trouble to the mind.
Reminds me of one late evening that should have been called to a close prior, Buddy had gone off on his own hare. The shaddows were growing by the minute and the light was fading fast. He was doing a good job and on his second circuit, we heard the coyotes calling themselves together to hunt. No doubt, they could here Buddy running, a lone hound by himself and they were moving in close. Every near pass Buddy came with the hare, I called for him to come in, but away his voice would fade again. When one shaddow showed a coyote crossing the road into the woods where Buddy was running, I knew the end was near so the next time his voice grew louder and the hare was coming our way, I began rough mouthing him and not calling him, but ordering him in, as though I were looking at him. His voice on the line began to break, with ever growing pauses between his giving tongue. I never let up, but kept ordering him to come here, just as though I were looking at him, though there was no way to see now in the dark, but I knew soon, the coyotes would be having their way with him. It was an all or nothing game now and I put every ounce of urgency and comand I could muster within my voice.
I'll never forget how my heart gladdened as I heard the stillness of the night and faintly, the four paws sloshing through the standing water that surrounded and seperated the evergreen forest from the two track road where I stood.
If love lives and breathes, it was alive and well when that little hound stood on hind legs & put his muddy paws upon my pantleg...

Now that's tha good stuff baby!!!!

Thats the thing my husband thinks Ty & I are to bonded..He has been out but won't leave my line of sight if he does and figures out I am not back there he will track me back. He is a good dog at listening. Better than my other 2 (beagles but can't hunt due to disablities).

Patch is that a true story? And if so have u ever thought of writing books?

Branko Krpan told me about a pup he sold as a pet to someone. The couple called him and his wife, Freida, 5 years later and asked them if he would take the dog back because their apartment complex didn't allow pets. They said they would.

Branko would take this dog out every day when he would check on the dogs running in his pen and everytime he would go out hunting. The dog would stay by his side most times. It only took a few weeks.

The dog turned out to be one of their best hunters. Branko also guides groups on hare hunts. He said many return clients asked for this dog many times. What I'm saying here is if it's in your dog, he'll start. It may take time but it will be worth it.

I agree with everyone here that you need to buy a good shock collar first, Tri-Tronics if you've got the money or Dogtra if you want to to save about a $100 or so. It's been a while since I bought one, 3 years I think, but I use Dogtra 1800 series with no issues. I think the oldest set is 5 years old. We own 3 sets because I have 2 partners. The batteries are just as strong as they were when I bought it.

Dogtra 1800 series doesn't have the tone that someone mentioned here but I feel my dogs, and I, don't need it. I use the "nick" function instead on my Dogtra. This function shocks the dog for only a millisecond veras the constant shocking. The tone is only a warning they're going to get shocked the next time if you don't pay attention to me. I don't give them a "next time" because I don't want them to think they can get by with it every once and a while. It's a feature that you will need to decide whether or not you need it. My partners and I don't.

Both manufacturers can lay a dog down and stop them dead in they're tracks within a mile, more than enough range for beagles. Tri-Tronics has a few more bells and whistles such as the warning tone, 2 mile range, expandable collar sets, etc. Dogtra does not hence the $100 or more for Tri-Tronics.

spend the extra $100 and get the TriTronics. Still wish I had passed on the Dogtra 1802. Just one piece of training advice. Dont correct for a command they dont know! Make sure to give them the command and the chance to obey it.

I have a 3 dog unit and i love it i only wish it was the new G2s its a newer tritronics unit works great.

I have a Dogtra 1802 Series and have not had any problems. I had one dog gone for 1 1/2 days near the end of January and the battery still had a good charge. I was with a couple friends who use Tri-tronics and they were impressed that the battery held up like that. My choice was between Dogtra and Tri-tronics and I chose the Dogtra. I don't think you can go wrong with either one. But an e-collar is a must.
