I see a lot of ads for Black and Tan beagles... but the pictures always show dogs with white feet and a huge white chest! I know that most people consider these black and tan... but their papers must read Blk,Tn,Wht....
Here's what I consider a Black and Tan beagle..... no white! Both are AKC registered by the way! LOL!!!
Here is my 3 month old male pup Hawk. He's one of two black and tan's I've ever saw... this black!

And here is this pups first cousin Crow, who is 9 months old.

Both of these pups have Bramlett, Paycheck, and Schnapps blood.

How many of you keep true Black and Tans? I'd like to see them!

Adam,

Check with John Otruba of Fulcount Beagles. He keeps black and tans only. If anyone in the country would have pure black and tans with very little white he probably would be the guy.

Wow

check out molly there to your left on my profile,I'd call her black and tan but she has a couple of small patches of blue ticking on her,I used to Keep Black and tans and still like em ,but every time a breed a black and tan seems like they have one oer two coppernose pups ,I don't know if it is a recessive gene in the sire or dams side ,when I bred molly i didn't know what to expect colorwise as I bred her to a Blanket backed blue dog,I ended up with 10 Black ,White and blueticks and three redtick coppernose pups again, only seven survived after the first day and I lost another about a week later,The other six thrived and were sold except one Blue female and one redtick female I kept for myself then one got ran over and the man came back wanting the redtick female to replace the one he ran over for his grand daughter and I couldn't turn him down ,my question is how do you manage to breed for specifically black and tans or any other coloras far as that goes without getting a throwback to some dog farther back in their ped than you can trace?

I believe that these "Solid" Black and Tans, have some "red" dog genes in there some where. And that is where you'll get an occational throw back. Once in awhile we get a red dog with the "copper nose" as you said.

The Black gene is pretty dominant however. If you look at the pup you'll notice he looks like a mini Black and Tan coonhound. This color is exactly what I've been looking for! And finally got it.
Don Bramlett has laid a solid foundation for getting solid "B&T". I like his line but mixed in some Paycheck and Schnapps for more size and foot.
Hopefully this pup will have the ability I'm looking for as well.

I agree with Adam about the red genes running close with the Black and Tans. Here is a picture of my recent litter off of my dog Tux. 4 reds, 3 B & T's, and 2 tri's. Dam is a Tri out my gyp that is almost soild B & T.
