A general forum for the discussion of hunting with beagles, guns, clothing and other equipment and just talking dawgs! (Tall tales on hunting allowed, but remember, first liar doesn't stand a chance)
I think this little female pup is going to be a keeper ... She's out of a Thorn Gap bitch and a Branko bred male. Made a similar cross last year but never kept anything out of it - big mistake! If she's anything like the last batch, lol, she should make a pretty decent rabbit dawg
Can you tell me a little about the Thorn gap breeding? My dog has some thorn gap in her ped Thorn gap Dark gap Hot shot, Thorn gap Bud jack, and Thorn gap dark valene. I would like to know their traits.

My female goes back to Thorn Gap Susie & Thorn Gap Dark Jack ... she's my only hound out of that breeding, but her style reminds me of the ones I have going back to Emmons Blue Streaker/Hanks Jo Jo Blue. Not the brace types, but the ones from that line that are actually bred for hunting, lol. She's very close on the line, is an upper medium speed, and simply will not quit. Last time I had her out she worked the same check for the better part of an hour before getting back on the line. That led to me bagging three huge hares holed up together Great little hound!
That must be where mine gets the line control. She runs a very tight line and works out crazy checks. She is a little slower than little pack dogs in the check but normally gets it within 3-5 min if it is tough. Just the other day we had a rabbit running straight at us and we scared it. It then doubled back 6 ft. and went off at 45 degrees away from us. The dogs were pounding about 40 yards behind and when they came through they overran it by 10 ft or so. The other dogs started circling the check area and she went back to the track ran the double and came out on the line within 2 or 3 min I was impresssed.
