Hi everyone. This is my first post on this particular board. I was wondering how everyone gains access to certain spots for running the dogs. I have lots of land where I am from down home, but I need to start accessing land up here where I go to school. I have gone to a couple different farms, but it seems like there is always a reason why they do not want me to. Please offer any suggestions etc. Thanks!!

Just keep asking. Let them know that you are only interested in running rabbits (maybe not even hunting them, just running) and if they let you offer them some of the harvest (already cleaned and ready for the frying pan). Assure them that you will respect their property and try to leave it cleaner than what you found it (i.e. picking up any litter that you find). All you can do is ask... Bring along a dog or two with you so they can see them too. Also ask them if they were interested in coming along to watch and see what you will be up to.

Thanks Stacy! I definitely will ASAP... I just need to find some time now soon! Also, thanks for the advice Emery...I will try your tips out next time for sure.. but what about finding land owners?? how can I find out who owns some land? I know there are plot maps at the court house, but they also do not cover much land.

Good luck Dave, having a good place to run a hound is something that seems to be getteing harder to find now a days, The last farmer I talked with was like I cant allow that on my property. The guy before this first farmer said yeah go ahead except he didnt tell me he didnt own it,needles to say the owner said stay out when I asked him to run in it.maybe its time to take up fishing very few private water signs, and a whole lotta access to vast acreage.

If they say no you could always offer a little green maybe that will change there mind some. Just do a monthly thing........I don't know maybe 30 bucks a month depending on how offten you run.
