Do you get the range they say. I can only get a1/10 of a mile range in flat open country.

Brantbeagle,
I bought a Sportdog 1800 about a month ago. I guess I did a little better than you, I got 400 yards out of mine on flat ground. Luckily my vendor had a 30 day satisfaction guarantee, and I promptly boxed up that no good piece of #%@# and sent it back. Ordered myself a Tritronics Sport Basic from the same vendor, the sport basic is supposedly a 1/2 mile unit, I tested it for a full mile and it was still working and I decided that was sufficient. I'm sold on Tritronics now!!!! I have Dogtra's also, and they are close to the advertised range, but the Tritronics almost doubled it. Don't feel bad, you aren't the only one to ever make that mistake. If I were you, I would most definitely contact your vendor and if he doesn't help you out, I'd get ahold of Sportdog. What they are doing is false advertising.

Don't say that

Nathan,
I'm calling Bill Boatman today and trying to use what I paid for the Sportdog for a TriTronic. I have three collars and they all get the same range, they even sent out a new transmitter and a collar and the range was still the same. If I were you I would try the distance out, I hope you have better luck with this system then I did.

Frank,
I pm'd you on this subject.

I'm sure glad I purchased mine from Altmoor. Roger's customer service is second to none. I've ordered from him 3 times, and every time the collar was at my door within 2 days. The one time it was here in less than 20 hours. Satisfaction is a guarantee with this guy. His prices are second to none. He's not a beagle man, he's into Drahthaars, but he's a dog breeder and trainer and most importantly he backs what he ships. You won't be disappointed, tell him Dominic sent you.

I cant agree with you more, I bought the 2 dog system and HATE it. Wish I would have spent the extra for the Tritronics. I have one Tritronics that is 6 years old and just like a Timex, takes a licking and keeps on ticking. Have trained 5 dogs with it and still use it on a daily basis. It has never let me down.

huntin fool,
I talked with Gary of Sport dog today and told him how unhappy I was with this system. he assured me to send it back and the problem would be taken care of, I'm really not expecting much from them, because they sell this stuff in the first place. I'm just glad you didn't get taken too.

Yep, I expect the same Frank. If it was just one unit I would have some confidence in them fixing it, but it's quite obvious that it's a repetitive problem. What are they going to do, give you a 2 mile unit? Maybe then you will get 3/4 a mile out of it, but I still wouldn't hold my breath. I see you've posted all over several boards about this incident, hopefully Sportdog will give in eventually and give you the refund you deserve, and hopefully others will see these posts and shy away from Sportdog. How about the size of the receivers on the 1800, ridiculous. Since I got rid of mine, I've heard of two of the supposed 400 yard units that would not work out past 75 yards. Good Luck
