I will be hunting in Rusk County... BTW, I had your drive while I was in the navy! LOL! Except the speed limit was only 55 back then. It was 1200 miles from where I grew up to Norfolk, VA and was a 24 hour drive.

I'll be a little north of you, a town called Cable WI. Good luck lets post some pics when we get back. I hear the snow is mostly melted where I'm going and the hare are still white & should make for some fun hunting. They shot 30 in 2 days last weekend, and said the hare were plentiful.

How many dogs are you taking? What speed are they? I'll be taking 3 or 4 upper med./fast dogs, should be plenty to do the trick. He said any more than that and we'll have too many multiple races.

I actually am dog short right now. I am in the process of switching speeds and I don't have anything to run. I will be picking up a pup while I am up there, maybe 2.

JCM, yes the state does have a stopage in the running for the summer I'm not sure what the dates are but i think its only like 2 months maybe 3 but the season on rabbits is year long if I'm not mistaken. I live in Michigan but I have hunted in Wisconsin quit a bit.
Where those boy are going in the Cable area there are alot of Hare up in that neck of the woods. I've hunted a little bit east of where they are going. I live about 1 hr and 40 mins from there. There are definatly more hare in the state of wisc. than there is here in the U.P. Should be like shooten milk jugs in the swamp.. They probally won't be running too much but this time of the year get ready if you jump a buck hare. they will travel for miles..

Where we're going I was told to bring only a few dogs b/c the hare are so thick we'll have multiple races all day. I'm taking 3 dogs, but I'm sure they'll do the trick. They only hunted a little last weekend and shot 30 hare w/ 1 1/2 dogs, long story. Apparently the area is loaded w/ alders, conifers, and swamps and the hare weren't running much over a mile out, whew!

We're going through Chicago, any idea how traffic is there? We'll be taking I-76 to I-80 to I-90.

Having just been through there yesterday, as long as you don't hit rush hour, you should be fine. With the new open road tolling using I-Pass, there are no longer huge waits at toll booths! :D I think I was cruising along with the flow of traffic at 70 in a 55. :)

You will want to take I-294 to I-290 to I-90 into Wisconsin. I think that amounts to about $8 in tolls, but it is the fastest way through. Are you going up through Eau Claire and onto Hwy 53 and up? That will take you a little way out of the way, but it is 4 lane and 65 mph. I can probably save you some miles if you are interested... just give me an e-mail @ e.barg@sbcglobal.net and I will tell you how I would get up there.
