I was running my dog and pup today and i seen a Foxhead on the ground the blood looked fresh and was wondering what could kill a fox in southeastern PA

Possibly a Coyote

I would!!. Wouldn't take them long to kill a single adult and pup. Be careful dude. Not trying to scare ya, but got any wolves in the area?

coyote is the only predator (around WV) I know that kills fox.
However, the fox could have been killed by a car, or other, and the carcass eaten by scavengers.

Did you see any tracks or hair around?

More than likely the fox wasn't killed where you found the skull because there should be lots of hair (on the ground and in the brush), and you should see other portions of the carcass.

Unless you're in Berks or Lehigh, I would say it was killed by something other than an animal. Could've been a hunter in deer or small game season or a car. Coyotes will kill fox, just like they will kill beagles. They do it because of teritory.

I live in Bucks. We have a few yotes, but basically they are just moving through. They never seem to be in the same places. I've seen tracks for the last three years, about every month or two. Haven't seen any for quite a while now. Basicaaly if you have a good population of fox, then you don't have too many yotes.

A coyote most likely.Foxes and house cats are tasty snacks to them.If the yotes get thick you will not see many foxes in the area.They also like ground hogs.

Carry a 22 or some such hand gun when running.I usually carry a Ruger P85 with two 15 round clips.Especially in the spring time.

had a friend lost 2 coon dogs 3 wks. ago to yotes in south east ohio

I lost the best hound, I had, a couple of months ago to coyotes. YES, they will attack beagles then they are running. I had to put him down, he was torn put so bad. I always carry a gun now.

There is a cat in SE Ohio, I saw one south of Cadiz a couple of years ago.

Every beagler should make some kind of effort to help control predators. Be they fox, yote, coon, or whatever. If you don't have the time, find a trapper or a predator hunter in your area and tell them what you see and where you see it. In PA, you can hunt yotes year round with little exceptions.

Normally, the breeding season for coyotes are from November thru February...During the breeding season, the males are very territorial, I would say that it is very likely that it is a coyote...One good thing about this time of year is that they are easier to call in with predator calls because of territorial reasons and the decrease in their food sources..I would get in touch with a predator hunter or invest in a ten dollar mouth call and blast me some yotes!!!!! Also, some beaglers in this area run their dogs with bells on their collars, whatever you decide I hope it works for ya....Good luck....

If there was no fur, it may have been leftovers from a trapper or predator hunter. They usually put them in the same place and scavengers scatter it around.
