Just a question before I go to work,
I see lots of the folks running at the fun runs and trials are from Kentucky. Can anyone tell me about Hazard? I have a recruiter calling me all the while wanting me to do nursing in Hazard or Harlan I think they said and also east Tennessee. Are there prisons or psychiatric hospitals there? Also, are there any more fun runs coming up? I may have some time to kill here pretty soon.

There's federal prison in Manchester, KY... that's about 35 minutes from Hazard. Not sure about any psychiatric hospitals in the area.

There's several AKC and ARHA trials within an hour to two hours of the general area.

NYH, Prestonsburg's hospital has a psych unit, also several day treatment facilities as well as a couple of long-term facilities that my wife did clinicals in. Nursing in eastern Ky is catching up to the rest of the world, always jobs that pay well. My wife was hired for SICU at her graduation and was recently raised to $24.00+/hr, which is super when counting cost of living in eastern Ky as good as anywhere. Plenty of abandoned strip mines being released regularly for hunting, growing up in briars etc., what's not to love? At least 6 beagle clubs within driving distance of there and back same day, why stay in NY? Fairly mild winters at least compared to yours, I'm sure.

You guys are a hoot!! DRamey there is no reason for me to stay much longer. I have been saying it for years that it is only a matter of time and I just can't get Kentucky out of my mind. Ever since I visited Oakhill I have been looking almost nightly at the real estate for sale and dreaming. I just want to live someplace where there are more like me who have a passion for running beagle hounds and can share in the good times. The reality is I still need to work, but with my kids almost out of college now, the wife and I are setting our sights on warmer climate, warmer people and lower taxes so I don't have to work so much. The area I really like is Casey Creek and Liberty but not sure where I would work as a psych nurse which is my specialty for many years. I'm going to find a way to come and see and plan to sell this place which is sure to attract someone from NYC that wants to own their own Ponderosa. I would rather own less, work less and run hounds more on some of those strip mines you talk about. The time is getting nearer and nearer to make my dream to come true. Thanks for the input guys.
