I had a dog with mange and I put it a dip, like what you are talking about and it cured it right up. Bad thing is the dog was sicker than all get out. It is insecticide, plain and simple.

8 weeks wow that is young to have mange. If I would have dipped pups into whatever I had given to me I am sure it would have killed them.

Do you have a problem with it in the line? I would probably change my breeding.

I dont have any problem with the line. The vet said it probally was the straw. First time I have ever had any trouble with mange. This is strong stuff. He said to dilute it more for them. I did but it is still strong. Pup arent sick. I have dipped em twice now. But they are still digging.

personally I'd go with Ivermectin 1% cattle solution. 1/10th of a cc now and then again in 10 days. Its much safer than dips. I've used it on puppies as young as 4 weeks.

Did you vet tell you what type of mites they are? Is there a lot of dandruff?

I agree with Windkist. Ivermectin will cure the mange. It worked for me on five pups at about eight weeks old.

Most likely its Cheyletiella mites. The vet can do a skin scraping to see but, thats just a waste of money. Sometimes its called "walking dandruf" because of so much flaking. These are fairly big mites but I have never been able to see them with my eye. Only under a microscope and they are scary looking!! You can either buy the ivermectin or ask your vet for it. Its much easier and will kill them all as long as you keep on top of it. All that pesticide is dangerous for your puppies.

mange sp.

I had a litter of pups that had mites and my vet dosed them with advantage. He also gave me some for the gyp as he said that they likely got them from her. The pups were losing hair, digging, etc.

Just curious, does anyone use the old home remedy that served us well 30+ years ago, used motor oil and powdered sulfur mixed together and brushed on? Probably not politically correct nor very healthy, but as a boy we used it on several hounds and they were cured quickly.
