It is best to cross the two best hounds possible. BUT, If one must have a weakness, let it be the sire as I feel the dam pulls at least 60 to 65% influence on the breeding. Even in selecting a sire you should look for good producing bitchlines behind them. History says it is so.

I think the Dam brings more to the table than the sire. Sires are always given all of the credit, but i agree with DG, if one has to have a fault let it be the sire. The dogs should compiment each other also(i.e. dont breed two dogs with the same weakness)

Are we talking about genetics here? I've always heard that the sire and dam each contributed 50% to the make up of the offspring.

Certainly both sire and dam will each contribute the exact same number of genes to their progeny. As for which one will have the greater influence on the progeny it all depends on their genotype.
