Have any one on here ever ran dogs or hunted at the Kokosing Wildlife Area in Knox county? I've thought about trying it out and wonder if any has ever been there before.

About 9 years ago I used to hunt there some. It was never one of those places you would walk away from thinking that it was the best hunting and running you ever had, but at the same time it wasn't bad. It never seemed to get alot of pressure....at least not like some places did. I used to live about 5 minutes away from that area and used to hit it often as well as I ran there in the off season ( I think it was done illegally un-beknown to me at the time) as I think that area has certain dates that you could work dogs. But never got hasseled, and ran into only a few people while hunting. I don't know about it now, but then, it wasn't bad. You'll see that it is surely thick enough that's for sure. I always did better there the second half of the season after the snow had knocked down some of the brush. One thing I might add, and that is currently it is duck season right now if I'm not mistaken. I wouldn't work the hounds too closely to the lake as you might aggravate the waterfowlers.....which in turn might try to "aggravate" you or the dogs. I used to be a die hard waterfowler and always prided myself on my "hunting manners", but I knew a few that if you screwed them out of working a few birds...they'd be out for blood so to speak. Check the laws, get a map of the area, and give it a go. Good luck.

Tried it once early in rabbit season. As with all central ohio wildlife areas, there was more hunting pressure than you could ever imagine. Left around 9:30 a.m. because there was just too many people walking in. It was almost like a social event. To risky for me and the dogs.


I'll agree with the earlier post. Probably better after the first of the year. Deer hunters and bird hunters will be out of the way then!
