I am going to Iowa or Kansas next month for some rabbit hunting. I just read about a snare season in Kansas and it has me concerned, is there a snare season in Iowa. Are the snares relaxing snares or are they allowed to use tightning snares? Any help or suggestions will be appreciated.

Hey Duke I hunt in Iowa all the time and have never ran into a snare. Hardly anyone around here traps anymore. Give me a hollar when you get in here. Might be able to run with you if things work out. Good luck! ss

I am looking to come up between the 7th and the end of the month. I need to look at when deer season is first. Thanks SS.

SS how are the Turkey hunters. I see you have a very liberal fall gun season on Turkey. In Ohio we have a short gun in the spring and fall and I try to stay out of the field. We seem to have more incidents in Ohio during spring Turkey with Turkey hunters and Mushroom hunters than we do in Deer Season. With a 2 month fall gun I would think they wouold be a little more understanding, but I better get it from a Turkey Hunter himself.

Duke, The ones I've found are the tightening types. They have a square washer which holds the cable tight when it is pulled.

Mike those are the bad ones for sure. Totally illegal in Ohio and Indiana, but trappers got to have their fun too. Just something I want to avoid. When does that snare season start and how many are left in the field after the season closes. I know they are not expensive.

Duke you shouldn't be bothered by fall turkey hunters. Just not that many of them around. The season is open for a month and a half. Not that much pressure on them. Bow season is open then. Gun seasons don't start until Dec. 2. ss

Duke, According to the Kansas hunting regulations book that I have, coyote hunting and trapping is open all year. So I guess they can be set year around. I have found snares in all seasons of the year. They are supposed to be tagged with a name and address on them. I have never found one with a tag. Deer season is November 29 - December 10. There is an antlerless season from Jan. 1-7, 2007.
