shock collar placement

Question for ya'll? When putting e- collar on dog, is it best to place it in front of regular collar on in back of it? I see both done. Just wondering what your thoughts are?

i put mine in front up closer to the dogs head. why???? because i saw a fellow that knows alot more about beagles than i do or ever will know do it that way..........

I don't run another collar with the shock collar, if i did i would think you would put it in front because the hound has his head down most of the time.

The reason i don't run with two collar's is i saw the reqular collar short out the shocking collar and burn it up. If the metal name tage or buckle gets across the points on your shock collar and you shock your hound things get bad.

I put my collars in front of the regular collar, only reason is the dogs neck is smaller closer to the head and LESS chance to come of,, just 3 weeks ago ,I put one on in a hurry, it was behind the regular collar,dang if that dog came in without his, ,, Thank God for the tones and young ears of Waterboy......

I put mine behind the reg. collar so the reg. collar helps keep the shock collar on.

i run shocker in front of collar and take a zip tie and run through the las hole and d ring so it wont come off

I put mine in front of the regular collars so if I need to leash a dog the regular collar isn't pulling down against the shocker..

I do the same as BrewerMo but I use the regular collar for saving the shock collar if it comes undone. I tie the two together with a removeable chain link or a carabeaner. (Both items are easily obtained at your nearest hardware store.) That way if the shcok collar comes loose it's just being dragged around by the other one and not lost which would then require searching visually or tone it if you have that feature.

I do the same as Chief and use a screw closed oval link for chains. I guess thats what he's talking about as well. I connect them from "D" or "O" ring of each collar. This also helps the shock collar from spinning around from under the neck.

I've done it both ways. on bigger dogs i put on back so collar will help to keep it from slipping off.however on smaller hounds I had problems with ecollar hitting dogs knees on dog leaving raw spot. put in front no more sores , doesn"t make sense but worked.You beaglers had same problem? I used to put it on behind the other collar. They would always loosen up a little, after the dogs had wore them a short while. I caught myself catching dogs and tightening collars, after a race or two. And believe me, I put them on tighter than most of the people I run with. I have had friends loose shock collars, puting them behind the other ones.

Now I put them in the front, and never have that problem ever.
A dogs neck gets smaller towards the head. If you have it very snug at the back of the skull, it can't go forward because of the skull, and it can't go backwards because the neck gets bigger in that direction. If it did move back ever so slightly, it would have to get tighter.
The looser the collar gets, the more likely it is to come undone.
KNOCK ON WOOD, I have never had a shock collar come off a dog.

I lost a coller once, found it a few weeks later, that was luck. I also hook the two collers togather for that reason. I use an industrial type saftey pin that I found in those drawers that have the small odd repair parts in at hardware stores, cost 20 cents each and work great.

aw shucks hillbilly ur makeing me blush! also in front have never lost one yet hopefully never will. i put mine on pretty tight.!barely get 2 fingers under it if trying to.!
