TAB, magazine questions
I for one have noticed some major changes in TAB since it has been sold. I am not sure if I like them yet or not. I don't want to start a big ******* contest, I just wonder if I am being too critical or something?
What I noticed is that it seems to be geared to one geographical location now, the hunting stories are basically gone in place of a short story contest (which according to the latest mag should be over now), then of course there is way more advertising then anything else. I know you have to have advertising to pay for the mag but...
I just wonder what things are going to be like when Bev has absolutely no input in the magazine any longer?
I don't get Hounds and Hunting or Better Beagling, I wonder if I should consider getting these mag's or not?

Well Afraid I have to agree with Emery on this
I have noticed a definate Change!!!!!!!
Like I have only recieved ONE mag since it was sold!!!!!!
I was supposed to have one more year on my Subscription. (I thought)
Tried Sendin them an Email to see if i needed to resubscribe or What but no response!!!!
Too bad to This was a great mag....
maybe its just growin pains or because they have just got started and all.
I hope so.....
As far as the articles and Adds and Such I Definately noticed that they favor the ONE geographic area and Certain Hounds!!!!!
Maybe they just need more imput from the subscribers?????

I thought it was just me that noticed that. I know otherwise now. I liked it better before it was sold even if it was late.
I wonder if they'd give me a partial refund since I reuped for 2 years prior to AB being sold.

It has changed and maybe the Ridenhours do need more input on it...I don't know...But I do miss the informative articles as I have learned alot from them but now all I read about is Mr. Smith's hunting trip to over yonder....Which is entertaining to read ocassionally but not a whole magazine full every month. They may just have a shortage of articles to print now and just filling holes..I don't know...The one thing I am sure of is I don't rush to the mailbox when the time comes anymore and I'll look at it when I get the chance......Only time will tell and I wish the Ridenhours the best....But they maybe be short one subscriber next year...

Thats one more than I have recieved! I was suppose to be good till sometime in 07. I just figured if they dont care anymore about thier customers than that I will take my business elsewhere so I sent in my money for a 2 yr. subscription to Better Beagling.TC wrote:Like I have only recieved ONE mag since it was sold!!!!!!

It's always helpful to receive feedback. It's the only way one knows if he/she is putting out what people want to see. Sometimes the truth hurts (I know, I've taken the good with the bad) but you learn from it and go on. I'm not sure if the Ridenhours read the boards or not, but y'all could always send a letter to the editor addressing your concerns, too. I'm sure they would be glad for any suggestions. Doesn't mean you can't discuss it here, though; I always allowed magazine discussion - even when I owned it, and it wasn't always pretty.
Randy, I went back and checked the list and you are correct. You paid me and I forgot to put you into the list. (I'm scratching my head over that one because I even have your address memorized, lol) I owe you a subscription. If I can ever lure you and Shannon out of Danville, I have some past issues at my house, a covered porch that faces the park, (and some cold beer)

I have talked to some of the Ridenhour's friends about some other issues about the mag. They told me they have heard of some of these issue before and that the Ridenhour's want feedback as much as possible to keep their readers happy.
I know they're small things to most but it did signify a definite change to the "status-quo" in the beagle magazine business. One was the change of the front cover that almost matches "Better Beagling", (one month, July, had the same color edging as Better Beagling and made it rather difficult to distinguish between the two), and "Hounds And Hunting". I miss seeing the cover of the mag as a full picture edge to edge. I also miss the choice of font that was used. It seems to match the times much better plus it separated itself from all the others. If I also remember, McGraw-Hill, (big whoopty-doo in the magazine business), took notice of this mag before it sold and good things came of it. I only hope the front cover cannot be bought like the above-mentioned mags.
Another thing I have noticed is seeing more info about the owners and the state of Missouri's beagling efforts. The past owners worked very hard to make it a nationally and internationally covered mag and not focus on them or the state of Indiana.
If it wasn't for Bev's writings about her travels around the beagling world---. Well I'll leave it up to you guys to finish this thought out and I've said my piece. I'll let it lie where it wants to after this and make my decision on whether I'll continue my subscription in a year or two. I'll also add having 2 different mags a month is not a bad idea either.
Randy, take her up on it!!! The beer is not only cold but free!!!

My last magazine was this months, I was waiting to see if things improved before reuppinp my subscription. They didn't so I will not be resubscribing. I also have been recieving the AB since Bev started it, I don't care much for field trial results even tho I know there is a need for them, just not enough reading for an old hunter that enjoys others trips afield. Thanks for the kind words, Jeff.
The big somebodies who contacted me last November was a company a bit bigger than McGraw-Hill. It was Warner Bros. Home Video (they are global, and I was thrilled). They saw the magazine on the web and contacted me about doing a promotional exchange for the new Shiloh movie to come out in 2006. I sent their advertising agent a couple of copies of TAB to review cover-to-cover and they had nothing but good things to say about the magazine. So we began the cross-promotional effort.
Here's what resulted. The scans are too large to post directly, and will stretch the page, but you can see the sticker on the package better this way (click on the links)

As I said in my editorial, Warner Bros. Home Video are top drawer folks with which to work, and they put out a great product for kids and adult alike. They are professional, yet down to earth. I encourage everyone to buy a copy of Shiloh, and keep Warner Bros at the top of your list when considering buying any movie. I was thrilled to go into my local Walmart's video section the other day and see the movie in the new release section with The American Beagler sticker on it. All retailers, Walmart, KMart, Meijer, Blockbuster's, etc. should have this on the shelf, but if you want more info on Saving Shiloh, go here:

Okay, here I go.
First of all, why would you change the cover of a magazine that is known all over the world. Looks to me like if you bought the mag then you would want to keep the cover that makes it recognizable from other mags. I know the new folks want to make it THEIR magazine now, but they bought TAB and the cover is something that you shouldn't mess with.
Second, TAb has always had that special personality that belonged to its owner Bev. There is not another person I know who loves the sport of beagling more, knows ALL the beagling folks first hand(cause she has been out there in the field with em), can give as good as she gets(LMAO), knows what articles are interesting to her readers, tries to bring in every part of beagling, and practically gave up her personal life to produce the best beagle magazine that is out there. It is amazing to me to see what all she accomplished on her own. Heck, alot of us have trouble just getting on the internet.
I got so tired of listening to all the whiners complaining about their magazine being a few days late. I knew she would be greatly missed when she was out of the picture.
With that said, I am sure the new owners will need some time to try to make TAb their own. It will be hard to replace someone like Bev. Actually, it will be impossible. TAb will never be the same.
