Stop Barking...

I'm going to have to try one of those corrective collars because I can't go anywhere for 10 minutes without him barking. If theres no human in sight, he howls his head off! I spend about 250$ a month getting someone to watch him and getting him boarded because I can't leave him here to bark like that!
Pretty pathetic, I know I should of done something sooner, but he seems to go up hill and then down hill again.. I can even try leaving him with two frozen kongs and he still howls his head off!
What kind of collar would you suggest?

In your case, I would check out Walmart. Chances are you won't use it again so no need in investing in a Tritronics. JMO

Just out of curiousity I'm going to look that up..
And I checked walmart, I want something a little better than what I could get at walmart. I want something that will actually work, where I don't have to wrry about if I have someone to come over to watch the dog for 3 hours <between me and my boyfriends shifts>..

If you do get a shock collar, check it often, the prongs have a tendancy to work their way into the dogs neck, and cause sores. I would take it off when ever you are at home so it don't do that. Check his neck daily, for they sometimes will burn the dog with out them barking just a reaction to the prongs I guess.

You need a bark collar you can get them at a local feed store like TSC
it will only shock if he keeps barking. He will probably become collar wise
but that will be ok if he only barks when you leave him. I think they run
about 60.00 to 80.00 but i'm not possitive.

when you put the collar on the first time you might want to keep an eye on him. dont stand right there but when you leave and he starts to bark he will most likely bark because of the shock and the collar will keep shocking as long as he is barking and he will have a fit the first few times. just keep an eye on him. i found that out the hard way. put one on a female i had and she went nuts when it was on and i had to run back down there and hold her mouth shut to keep her from barking and she finally figured out that when she stops barking it stops shocking....keith

May I suggest lead poisoning of the brain?
Seriously though try
http://barkbusters.com/. I think they have a written lifetime guarantee of the dog and it takes only about 2 hours of your time at your home. I've been thinking about contacting them for my whole kennel. Could be interesting.

FP, I stopped by Cabela's on my way home from work today and looked at everything they had. I ended up buying a Sportdog model BC-103. I cost $59.99 and it is the perfect size for beagle. Small and has six levels of stimulation. The stimulation adjusts automatically each time the dog barks witin a 30 second time period. It starts off with a warning tone and works up to level six.

Spend the extra, i tried the cheap route and they corrected the dog when he was not barking. I have TriTronics and Dogtra and its a toss up on which is better. I like the features of TriTronics but the Dogtra is a very reliable collar with a little better adjustability.

FP, That should work great for you. Read the instructions and introduce the collar correctly.

It's a bark collar, not the typical shock collar you hear mentioned on this site alot. I would have recommended the tritronics bark limiter, it's $100 w/ free S&H, but this will do the trick, they're about the same thing.
