I guess I'm going to have to quit running after dark. I had a couple of yotes come in on my dogs again Thursday night. These around here seem awful brave. They couldn't have been 50 yards away from me yipping around while I was calling my dogs in. My brother was telling me that he saw one at about 8:00am this morning out in his front yard watching his 4 month old beagle pup playing on his front porch. He said that it took off when it heard him open the door. Just thought I would heads everyone that they must be hungry and trying to feed their pups.

I have electronic caller, hand calls, decoy, and 10 gauge.........will travel. Give me a shout when your ready.

yea 2 nights ago we got into a bunch of yotes right before dark we heard them, so we tried calling the dogs in, but they never came, so we had to go get the 4 wheelers and go try to get them, We got down to where we last heard the dogs an a yote jumped out right in front of us!!! pretty freaky... every dog we found was scared to death didnt get them till about 3 in the morning... I think the yotes where between us an the dogs for the dogs to not come like that..

A friend and I were running last evening and we had them come in howling and yipping. It realy scared us,we figured on looseing a hound. They never came in thank the good Lord.

I RUN AT NIGHT A LOT IN THE SUMMER MONTHS I LEARNED A LONG TIME AGO RUNNING YOTES WITH BIG DOGS THAT THE DARKER THE COLOR OF THE DOG THE MORE THE YOTES OR AFRAID OF THEM THEY CAN'T SEE THEM AS GOOD. LOST 3 WHITE OR TRI COLORED NO BLACK ONES OR DARK BLUETICK.

I've got a question for some of you more educated minds. I had an ol'timer from down the road once tell me that the coyotes were mixing with house and stray dogs. He said that their offspring were sterile and that they would pretty soon breed theirselves out. Is this true or just wishfull thinking???? The reason I am asking is I seen one out in the field today that was as big or bigger than a german shephard. I've never seen a coyote that big and I'm thinking it maybe a cross.

For everyone that is sterile 50 are not! They are tuff to get rid of.

Tuff to get rid of, you're not kidding. Don't have many up here in Northern VA, but down south/west of us they're getting more & more prevalent each year. I'm sure it won't be long until they're in my back yard!

We've got 'em BIG TIME here in NW Indiana. Yes they have been crossing with wild dogs, usually some type of Sheperd. Saw one shot at F&W Area last season was a cross. Lookked like it would weigh in at about 70 pounds. I live in town of 23,000 people. Nice neighborhoods, will taken care of homes and mowed lawns. I have seen them 2 blocks from my house on the next street over. Saw 6 cross busy road in front of our hospital. I hate 'em. Know of two fellows whoi lst dogs while they were running a rabbit. One guy lost two dogs and the other lost one. Don't have an answer. Just have to be vigilant and hope if one comes in on dogs they can get away and I'm close enough to yell and shoot like hell.

I was running my two gyps last week when my older broke gyp came out of the woods and went behind me and hunted the other side of the road and I thought that was odd as my derby was going through the briar thickets and I heard some growling and yipping and my gyp came out on the road backing up and growling when out pops what I thought was a Grey Fox, mind you I am only 25 yards away and yelling at my dog to come to me as I thought it was a rabid fox, I then hit the Tri Tronics on her and she jumped up and screamed and came to me and the animal I thought was a fox just looked at me and the dog and turned around and went in the briars casually.. I asked around and now that I think of it the animal didn't have any red to it like most grey foxes do around here so I believe it was a coyote.. It is in Prince Georges County, Maryland bordering Charles and St Mary's counties and the game wardens said there has never been a know case of yotes in St Mary's County and a isolated case in the other counties. This is our club grounds ..I now carry a 22 mag in the truck when I run just in case but I believe this was my first encounter with them and from what I hear this is only the beginning...

Had a friend run hounds on Sunday. Yote rolled two of his dogs. He chased it with a golf club said it ran about 50 steps then turned and stood its ground growling. Seems like a bad year for them.
