Here's a few pics of my almost completed kennel. Right now I've got 4 - 10X10 pens and a brooder with 2 sides. Eventually I'm gonna move my brooder from under the shed and add another 10X10 pen. Also I'm gonna put up a catch pen around the cement. That way if any pups get loose they can't go anywhere. I run beagle on fox so I'm puttin up a 1 acre fox pen. I'm gonna put 3 or 4 foxes in it and train my own pups. We don't have enough foxes in the wild around here to successfully train fox beagles in the wild.

I put down 6X6's on the corners and 4X6's for the rest.

This is my brooder.

This is the fox pen. The fence is 5 ft. tall with an apron at the bottom. It'll have a hot wire against the apron an at the top.

Yeah these bloodlines are raised to run fox. You have to go 3 or 4 generations back to find rabbit dogs. But then you run into some of the all-time greats such as Maravics Blue Ninja, Bessey's Black Alibi, Round Pond Mr. T, Northway Spur, Birch Haven Bruiser, Able's East Coast Trimmer, Branko's Jack Of All Trades, Dingus Macrae, Branko's Copper Boy, The Elm's Jigs Maggies Mate, etc....Just to name a few. So ya see, these fox beagles of mine aren't far off from the rabbit hounds that most people are runnin today. I'm not saying that these hounds are anything like the blood in the back of their pedigrees but I'm pretty sure they got their speed from these hare hound lines.
Here's a few pics of what they look like. Basically they're a little bigger than most rabbit hounds - 14-17" And really straight legs.

This little bitch goes back to Dingus, Branko's Copper Boy, Birch Lake, and the Moiradale line out of Canada.

This male comes out of Branko, Blue Ninja, Northway, and Birch Lake blood.

This female comes out of Branko and Birch Lake stuff.

Nice looking hounds, I could tell they had Birch Lake in them before I read your captions. You obviously take excellent care of your hounds, their beauties.

You probably wear out shock collars pretty quick. With bloodlines like that, I don't see how you keep them from running rabbits. Good looking hounds.

I am GREEN with envy!!!
They look great! You got me wanting to pour concrete (but hubby is saying not way can we afford it). I did order some shade cloth today and at a great PRICE! I WILL have concrete kennel floors before the years end!
Thanks for posting the pictures!
I'll keep hammering the DH and he will eventually give in! LOL

I got the 12' x 50' 70% from here

Also got 50 grommets!
LOL, my DH just went out this am to price shade cloth at TSC and it was WAY expensive. One piece 10' x 12' was over $100 dollars! So I'm feeling pretty good for sure!

We don't have to worry about shock collars because we only run in pens. There are rabbits in alot of the bigger pens we run in and yes they'll will burn one down. It would be hard to gun over them if you trained them as rabbit dawgs though because they're so fast. I do have an old bitch that we'll run rabbits only if you put her in a pack of rabbit dogs. She just seems to know what you're hunting. I've rabbit hunted her, deer hunted her, and also train all of my pups in the fox pen with her. Not to mention she is one of the best brood bitches in the Southeast. She's got Maravic's Blue Ninja as her Great Grand Sire. The male in the above pics is off of her. Also the same rabbit dogs that alot of you guys are running could have easily been fox dogs. A little Gyp off (FC) Buddy's Iron Eagle placed at our last hunt. And the way we score is purely SPEED/DRIVE. Although a hound can be scratched for Babbling, Loafing (if their butt hits the ground; I don't care if they're takin a pee), and Back-Tracking!

I am curious about the fox pen. I want to make a similar pen approx. 100'L X60'W. What brand apron fencing did you choose, how far apart are the posts set and what type of hotwire do you recommend?
Could my husband and I put up a fence like this ourselves ya think? He is handy and does all the carpentry/yardwork around here....I can help out but will admit that I am a total GIRL when it comes to that stuff,

lol.
Thankyou!
