Anyone have any experience with strangles in their dogs, how they get it and how they got rid of it. The vet was treating my Chief dog for a bee sting in his mouth, a week later his lympth glands are so swollen looks like he swallowed a stack of toast. I ran him in a hunt, the next day there are two holes in his throat and the swelling is gone. Have had him on antibiotics the whole time, now putting emt gel on the holes. Pretty nasty ordeal.

I had a pup with strangles.I took him to the vet and he put him on antibiotics. He had cysts that had to be kept open so they would drain. He had quite a few in the neck area. The vet had to change antibiotics three times to find something that would take care of it. Good luck

Strangles are very rare, but do happen. I had it in a coon dog pup a year or so ago,..... took awhile for the vet to finally diagnose.... and actually it wasn't antibiotics that took care of it.... he needed to be put on bonds soup (steroids) to cure it..... but he came out of it pretty quick on the steroids.

i work as a vet tech. and the best thing that we use is metho pred injestions and a smz antibotics. the dog will just get more open sore til you get it treated its hard to find anitbotics that work for it.
