Who sells the little hunting horns used for calling dogs? They are about 6 to 8 inches long and I think are made by ACME.

The Acme horns have a reed and are more problems than they are worth, if you can even still get them. The best hunting horns are those used by the formal packs, and are made in England by Keats. S.R. Patch gave the website for them above. I've had mine for about 20 years and wouldn't take hounds out without it. They are about 9 inches long, made of copper and nickle, and have no reed.

I got one of Libby's horns from the jewelsofthehorn site. Works great. Hounds respond well to it and it beats yelling your lungs out when it time to gather the hounds. CHH

I make my own hunting horns from both Goat and Cow horns but wanted to let you know a little horn I used to have that was about the best I have ever had. I found the tube off an air horn(one of those long ones) from a truck and fashioned a mouth piece on the end. It was the best sounding and easiest blowing horn I have ever owned.

Why not a whistle?

It works for me, and it takes up less space.

A BEAGLER USING A WHISTLE? NO WAY. HOUNDS AND HORNS. WHISTLES ARE FOR CITY FOLK. JUST KIDDING. A WHISTLE MIGHT WORK, BUT A HORN JUST GOES WITH HOUNDS.

I used a whistle for over 20 years with my hounds. Even with my hands cupped it still hurt my ears. I switched to a hunting horn last hunting season. It was a goat horn from http://www.jewelsofthehorn.com. Libby Gates will make you a quality hunting horn. My horn reaches out much farther than a whistle, and the dogs respond well to it.
