Gently pull it out, if you can, get your fingernails down and pinch at the skin. I usually don't have any trouble getting the head out.

All good suggestions.

Poster doesn't say if tick to be gotten off is in a dog or person. If it was a person and you start in March eating a clove or two of Garlic a day you wouldn't have any on you. Should be lots of ticks this year due to mild winter so if you're going to start prevention now, eat two or three a day for a week and then one or two a day. Good on sandwiches.

Since I'm married, we get the pickled garlic in a jar from Cracker Barrel as it doesn't make you or your breath smell like garlic.

Gets in your blood and ticks will get on you, crawl off, but not stick.

Taste great too and good for you!

I just got back from the emergency room. I got a tick bite on the inside of my thigh night before last and the swelling spread half way down to my knee. They give me medecines and drawed 6 tubes of blood and everything else. Not gonna slow my hunting down any though.
