Lost Dog... NOW FOUND!!!

This past Saturday I travelled 5 hours to and 5 hours back and bought a 5 year old bluetick bitch. When I went to look at the dog, her disposition was fine, she had no problems with me checking her teeth or looking her over. She was in heat, quite swollen, guy said she was on her 8th day, but I really didn't think this was a big deal. I got home, opened the back of my Jeep, and not realizing the kennel had jarred open, the dog jumped out and took off running. I ran after her to catch her, and I did, however when I went to reach for her she made it obvious that she was going to bite me if I grabbed her. So she got away. About and hour after she got away, I heard her running a rabbit, so I took my male and headed to try and get her. She wanted no part of him, she stopped running the rabbit and took off when he got near her. The next day, Sunday I got up at crack of dawn, and heard her running a rabbit again, this time I took my small female, they touched noses, sniffed each other over, then my little gyp came back to me, and the bitch took off running again. I called the dog catcher, hoping for help somehow, still hasn't returned my calls. She came in to my yard 2 times later that day, both times as soon as she was called (once by my wife, once by me), she took off running. Now I haven't seen her for 2 days, I have food out, she hasn't touched it. I myself haven't heard her for 2 days either, my wife thought she heard her both yesterday and today, I'm thinking it's just her mind playing tricks on her. I guess I'm going to give up the search, I can't understand why this dog had such a complete change in personality. I'm thinking she's probably moved on to look elsewhere for food. It really has me frustrated.

Tioga County, I don't imagine she will make it down to you, she came from the Pittsburgh area. She was hanging right around here for a few days, but it's really strange that none of the neighbors or anybody else has a confirmed sighting in the last couple of days.

That does sound pretty weird unless someone did something because she bit them.

By now she probably has a pack of males following her, she should be ready to breed. Keep calling animal control and file a written missing dog alert with them. If you have pictures or can get pictures of her leave one with the report. Make copies and post them with a handsome reward. Also, laminate your posters. They will last for months. If you don't get her back now, you very well may get her back later when the pups are born.
Keep your head up, all is not lost. Been there, done that.

Timberdoodle,
I've been to Gillett. We should run sometime, I don't run any trial dogs though, just my hunting dogs. She has no I.D. collar, because I didn't even get in the house to get a chance to get in on her. Only thing she has is an orange collar he left on her with a Wetzal County, WV dog license on it.

We managed to catch a wild female once in a Hav-a- hart rabbit trap using sardines as bait. Don't give up on her she will show up again. Best of luck!

You were right, she showed back up tonight. Still wasn't able to catch her, but at least I know she's sticking close by. I'm assuming if she hasn't left the area after a week, she's probably not going to. I put out a small box trap tonight, and put food out in several spots. She's looking like her feet are getting pretty sore, but other than that she didn't look too awful bad.

Try just putting food in the trap. If she has other food sources she won't go in the trap. Good luck, and glad to see she is hanging around.
