Barking on the back trail - Help

I have two five month old pups, Buster & Luna (brother & sister) that I'm having the time of my life with! I grew up hunting my neighbors beagles but these are the first I have ever owned/trained. I have them started on snowshoes and they are doing really well except for when they go on check. If they can't find the track fairly quickly my male will run the back track toungeing away. My female will follow but won't bark. I think if my female were alone she would stay and sort out the checked scent; however I still think I will have the same problem with my male if he is alone. Any suggestions on how to get my male to stop barking on the back trail and cirlce forward on a checked scent? Thanks in advanced!
Jim

Stand on the back trail when he is in a check and scold him if he starts backwards. Then move him forward again, assuming you know where forward is. LOL

he is young that is correct but a key point is run them when the tracking is at the peak or good day i usually run a old dog first to tell how the tracking is if it is good let the pups run.or run them with a slow seasoned dog

Those dogs are young, they should grow out of it, just be patient. Mike

For the time being I would stop running the female with the male or it is probably only a matter of time before she picks up this same undesirable trait

I agree with blue briar, run you female solo so she can progress without the negative input from the male. As for him, he is still young, but I would follow up behind him and disturb as much of the scent that I could. If he still persists in back tracking I would nip it quick.

Thanks to all!!! I posted that question yesterday then went out and had similar reusults. I'm on the way out the door now with Luna (my female) only and leaving Buster here with the wife - I will run him tomorrow. Thanks again for all the input!
