KY Ladies and Gentlemen

We are looking for some great Bluegrass music. Prefer Just Pickin

I was at our camp awhile back and met a gentlemen from KY that was visiting the neighbors that had stacks of CD's. You guys and gals know the type just good ole sit around the porch bare foot in the rocking chair with a chaw of baccer in the mouth and good jug of mountain spring water at your side kind of music. The CD's consisted of nothing but instruments. fiddles banjos guitars and some mandolins

Can someone steer me in the right direction. Those of us that were there was talking about it just the other night and could not remember for the life of us any of the titles. We did remember some of them were just local bands but he also had some that were released nationally.

We want to add some of it to the music library.

Go to poppy mountain website . They put on large bluegrass festival every year and will have some links to local bands . Bluegrass is also politcally correct .

My father in law and his brothers do a lot of bluegrass. "The Robinson Brothers," they usually play at Hillbilly Days on the Friday Night during the festival. That sounds like them, they usually get together in the Breaks or at Cane Patch Campgrounds to sing and pick. I think they are really good, slightly prejudiced but they are family. Sometimes they perform at Jenkins Days in the fall. Mainly they like to get around a good campfire and just pick for a few hours. Probably the easiest way to get to hear them would be to show up at the park in PIKEVILLE Friday Night of Hillbilly Days.

You might try "The Seldom Scene" (my favorite bluegrass group). Also you might like "The Dillards" ( they are the "Darlins" from the Andy Griffith Show) great soulful bluegrass group. "New Grass" is a more modern group. Seldom Scenes 25th aniversary live double CD is one of the best CD's I own. It has alittle bit of everything from a bluegrass version of house of the rising sun (acoustic) to In the Midnight Hour (originally by Wilson Pickett) and alot of traditional bluegrass. Also one of the best versions of "In the Pines" and"Old Train". "Breaking new ground", "Wait a minute" and "Gypsy Moon" are just some of my favorites. I play alot of bluegrass (I play guitar) and these are musically some of the best I have ever heard.

Can't forget Dr. Ralph Stanley. He is good for some sit around baccer chewin'. I second Seldom Scene.
I think Heavy metal and bluegrass are very similar, You also may want to try a little Pantera with you morning coffee; always perks me up!

Seldom Scene..hard to top them. Some other goodens I like are Nitty Gritty Dirt Band , Norman Blake and Tony Rice do a CD together that is a real toe tapper too. Also, as mentioned you gotta have the Dillards in there too.There are so many great Bluegrass bands it would take all day to mention them..lol.. If you search the record / CD label " Rounder " they usually handle a lot of this type of music. Good luck, CHH

I'm good friends with a fellow by the name of Timmy cline,he is the son of the late curly ray cline which played with ralph stanley for years.Curly ray was probably the best fiddle player that ever played.
Timmy isnt making any albums as of late but has several from past yrs availiable,good sippin music lol
Have another good friend that played for a short lived band called natural blend,i really liked their music but are no longer together.I guess my all time favorite was Jimmy martin.You ever hear Bill Monroe sing the mule skinner blues,great simply great.

Metalica RULES and its not just for breakfast anymore goes well with BOC (breakfast of champions)

My cousin Adam Poindexter plays for the Misty Valley Boys. He has eaten, slept, drank, and lived bluegrass since he was old enough to hear. I got my Granddaddy's love for hounds and he got the music. Here is their link.
