Ok This is something i been askin folks that i know and have got different answers to it So thought i would post it here and see what i get LOL

do you run in the rain and if NOT WHY NOT????
I have just seen a lot of folks sayinWell I will go run if it dont rain!!!!
Or Was Good runnin till it started rainin!!!!!!
I have even heard the dogs were hammerin and then it started rainin so we loaded up!!
or Started rainin So we left the Woods!!!!
WHY??????
heck with 141/2 Inches of rain in the last 30 days if we didnt run in the rain We couldnt run at all!!!!!!!!
Was just Curious, I know most of Yall aint Gonna MELT!!!!!!!
So WHY DONT YALL RUN IN THE RAIN?????????

I dont mind hunting in a light rain, the dogs can smell good,and run a good rabbit. But if it starts raining hard it seems to wash away the scent and the track gets hard to keep going.If at this time I start getting lots of break downs and can not hear my dogs good because of the rain, its time to load up.

Growing up in Oregon (west of Eugene), I'm well aware of if you don't do it in the rain, you won't do it at all. But I quickly learned that with some types of hunting (like deer hunting) the advantage quicklly goes to the hunter when it starts to rain because the deer don't smell or hear you as well in the rain.
What I have found with dogs is that rain is the perfect time to train because they defetnally have to work harder inorder to stay on a track, but it is really not a productive time to hunt.
Its like with my retrievers, casting into a headwind is about the hardest thing to get a dog to do well. So when training I never pass up the opertunity to run blinds into the wind.

I always look for opportunities to run my dogs in differant conditions. Weather has never stopped me from running or hunting. Weather is unpredictable and even if we could know the weather 100% of the time, I would probably not be able to run or hunt only during perfect running weather (Whatever that is) so I just ignore the weather and go run or hunt when I can.

The dogs get better each time they are in a condition they have experienced before. If I run them alot in the rain, they get better at running in the rain. These hounds are remarkably adaptable and eager to run rabbits. I have never had one come back to me and want to go home because it was raining.

People will say the same thing about low temps,high temps, crusty snow, powder snow, wind and any other weather condition. The dogs will learn to only hunt when conditions are just the way they like them and quit when the weather doesn't suit them.

I went out yesterday, tried to find someone who wanted to go with me, they all said "what! are you nuts, its raining". Well, T.C. your right, I won't melt so I loaded the dogs and headed out. Ran for 4 hours and from the time I let the dogs out to when I quit it was non-stop action. It was probably one of the best days running I had all year. I have to say though, towards the end of the day when it was a steady downpoor they started to have a few more breakdowns.

TC the reason I don't hunt in the rain is because it is a UFO down here.Unidentified Falling Objects=rain and I barely remember what that stuff looks like. Joking aside, some of the best hunts I have ever had whether it be beagles or coonhounds was during a rain. I would love the opportunity to try it once more.

A light warm rain is fine for running, the problem is not tracking conditions, the problem is "I" don't like getting soaked that's what is detrimental to hunting in the rain, conditions for the hunter. That is why you hear people say they loaded up when it started to rain.

I went hunting yesterday in the rain. It wasn't a drizzle but it wasn't a down pour just a good steady rain. I had 2 dogs and they just pounded the 2 rabbits we jumped. They circled one rabbit 2 1/2 times and then I missed it twice and it holed up. the other ran about a cicle and a half and holed up. Personally I like hunting in the rain. It seems that rabbits will run longer before going in a hole and the also seem to not set as tight.

I like running in a light rain. Like some of the others have said, the rabbits seem to run longer. Some of the best running I have seen, has been in light rain.

I go out in the rain and the snow. Had a great run yesterday afternoon in fresh snow, and of course as I headed out to go home, they jumped two rabbits. Crested dog was cold and wet so had to bury her in my coat. I bought an oil skin, long and an oil skin purple brimmed hat. Best investment for those rainy days. Warm, dry and breathable. Carolyn

TC, here in ky.if you dont like the weather today you can bet it will be something different next week. We have some crazy weather here, neighbor killed a snake last week, and this morning I have ice in the dogs watering bowls.

we went hunting saturday also, and of course we got soaked but the dogs ran great. They ran 8 rabbits and we shot 8 rabbits. The dogs ran the heck out of them bunnies.
