Sorry to put it this way but last night one of my hounds got cut on his (sack) while running .it didn't slow him down one bit but when I saw it the hunt was over lots of blood.He will be fine I wondered if anyone else has had this happen and any ideas to protect this area?I hope that I put this ok.

One of my males wears his raw everytime out. We have a crusty snow right now and that plays a big part in it. All the hair is gone and it bleeds.

I am not speaking from experience but was wondering if some of the treatments you use to toughen a dog's pads would work in that area as well? Good question as we have all seen it. I used to hunt with a guy that had a fantastic grade male (beagle bassett mix), but his little legs were so short, that he tore himself up pretty bad. He'd start the hunt off with that typical deep bassett like bawl and by late afternoon, would be a little higher pitched, almost scream-like (when it went through the thick stuff). That's how he got his name "Sqeeler", as when his "boys" where hurt, his voice reflected it.

I might as well throw my two.....um....cents in! While this has never been a problem with my beagles it has been a real big problem with my buddies bassetts. They are a hardy crew I'll tell you when they continue to beat brush despite the obvious discomfort this has got to cause. I too have seen them red to the point of bleeding and cringe at the sight. I thought perhaps a handy wife might knit or crochet some sort of mitten or "athletic support". But it is an embarrassing thing to bring up to mine cause she don't and never has cared for my hounds and already thinks I'm "nuts". No pun intended! I would be careful about what kind of topical treatment I would use cause it might burn. I suppose you could try "Blue Coat" spray but that to would open you up to potential jokes at your hounds expense. I'm fresh out of suggestions and I'm just glad it has not been a problem I (I mean my hounds ) have had to deal with. I would think the whole ordeal could become very frustrating and cause everyone to become a bit........shall I say.....Testi...!

Best post I've read in a long time. Going to show my wife and see if she will make a b#* protector for Rebel!!!!! He was hairless after season was over. Don't think it will stay on when he's hunting, but it should help keep him warm in the kennel while its still cold.
