I haven't gotten mine, but then again, I never get it until everyone else has theirs. :)

Got ours yesterday...

Another thing, years ago we used to get magazines through the mail and they were in nice enough shape that you could have a collections of year after year of publications.
Today, ours come ratted, bent and torn, and look as if they already seen a dozen passes through the kids hands, by the time we get them in the mail.
Why do we pay more for such poor handling of our mail?...

All I can do is apologize for the late delivery, (smacks of January 2005) and let everyone know it's still my intent to truck the magazines to a different city to be processed. I sent a 2004 stud book to Richard Timm in northern Indiana (we're talking 2 hours north of here). I addressed the envelope, put first-class postage on it and it was postmarked Jan 13th. He received it on Wednesday, Jan 25.

?????

I've heard grumblings that the U.S. Postal service was going to go privately owned. I doubt that will ever happen, but I wonder if it wouldn't be an improvement.

Bev,
I talked to a guy at UPS and he said that if companies were allowed to compete over delivering mail, a first class stamp would cost $0.13. He may have just been blowing smoke, but I am sure there is some truth to it.

Ask him why then it USPS is the cheapest parcel shipper. Also, ask him why UPS, FedEx and DHL have USPS delievering their parcel for them. UPS is the big dog in parcel business yet they need USPS to deliever for them?

UPS is the king of parcel world and residential deliveries often cost 10 to 20 percent more than those for businesses. They also have a fuel surcharge. I think it's about $3.80 just to mail a document across town via UPS. They will do it on Saturday but only if you pay extra. If they are one of the most expensive shippers of their specialty (parcels) how could they do even more for less?
The USPS delivers more items in one day than Federal Express does in a year and more items in one week than United Parcel Service does in a year.
The Postal Service delivers to 143 million businesses and households each day, six days per week. UPS delivers to 7 million addresses daily while FedEx serves even fewer
Seems like UPS and FedEx charge more and do less. :P

Well, I prefer to talk about beagles but I'll respond....
First of all you are not comparing apples to apples in comparing service levels of USPS Priority to UPS and FedEx. There is no comparison from a reliability and service standpoint. Secondly, I think you have it backwards. FedEx transports USPS mail for them and in exchange, USPS lets them put FedEx boxes at their Post Offices. Thirdly, USPS doesn't even come close to breaking even on their parcel delivery. They are only able to compete from a price standpoint b/c they are government subsidized. That is a fact. They have received $27 billion in tax payer appropriations since 1970. The Post Office is also $70 billion in debt - unfunded liabilities and are trying to convince Congress to bail them out. Additionally, they are exempt from most taxes. I could go on but this is getting boring.
